I recently moved Stonehenge from London to Marseille, as I am playing Provence and don't plan on accepting any english culture in my empire. But it's useless, because I can't upgrade it unless I accept the english culture. So really what's the point of moving a monument if these monuments stays exactly the same ? Just a waste of money.

monument.png

Excuse the french on the screenshot but you can see Stonehenge is in Marseille yet require english culture. Shouldn't it now require occitan or french to be more organic and logical ?

I guess the requirements are fixed and do not change by moving, the only case it would help if you move it TO a province that fulfills the requirements from a province that does not.
However, I don't get this functionality anyways, I think its possible for like 2 or 3 monuments of all, even for them it doesn't make any sense at all (why would they move Stonehenge to London, even more so, how?). No clue why it exists and I also can't recall any explanations for this in the DDs.

They do have province or area bonus’s so I guess it could make sense to move it for those reasons.
The whole mechanic and design of the great projects just don’t make sense. How the hell can you ‘upgrade’ the pyramids.

Even accepting english culture doesn't solve anything. I now have a useless monument unless I change my capital's culture to english...

That's strange: if you don't move it and accept English culture, it works - is there a problem with the fact that now the culture of the province where Stonehedge is, is not English anymore?

The only reason I can think of is if you don’t plan on keeping the province that it’s built in. An example of this is the rock thingy(can’t remember the name) in north Canada. If you colonize the province, you can move it before a colonial nation forms. I’m not sure if it’s worth it though.

It turns out there are only 5 that are relocatable:
  • Buddha statues of Bamian (Afghanistan): If I was playing a Buddhist or Fetishist nation, I would probably relocate these, because Bamian is a long way away and converting Bamian to my religion will probably be tricky.
  • Gomateshwara Statue (S India): Probably don't relocate - the bonuses are not particularly impressive and the province is almost certainly already following your religion (Hindu).
  • Inukshuk (Hudson Bay): Always relocate before forming a CN in the region. (Used to be locked to pagans, I think, but isn't any more!)
  • Moai (Easter Island / Rapa Nui): Never relocate, as it's locked to Polynesian culture and doesn't have any local bonuses. (If you're a Polynesian nation, you could relocate it to your capital for role-play prestige, but it's a waste of money.)
  • Stonehenge (England): Never relocate, for the same reason (except with English instead of Poynesian culture).

In many recent versions you have to relocate this monument to be able to use it, because the province changes culture as soon as your colonist arrives and there is no way to change the culture back to Polynesian if that is not your primary culture. To use it, you would move your capital to a polynesian cultured province and then relocate the capital.

i guess the main reason for this feature is, like in a lot of PD games, to be possible used (better) in the future, a nice addition for modders or to be ignored forever.

You can relocate from your Colonial Nations and vassals (not sure about PUs) so it might be useful if you have a vassal you don't plan to integrate anytime soon or can't integrate at all (CNs)

as for the particular issue of Stonehenge requiring English culture - you forget it require English culture OR pagan religion so for example for Aztecs doing Sunset Invasion (or any pagan actually) might be worth relocating if you plan on making Trade Companies in English channel and don't plan on either converting religion or accepting English culture there.

So well, it's niche but definitely not completely useless

How the hell can you ‘upgrade’ the pyramids.
You could repair them. Between weathering and looters, the Great Pyramid had suffered considerable damage by the 15th century AD (at which point, you must remember, it was already about four thousand years old). In particular, it had lost much of its limestone casing and its capstone.

The whole mechanic and design of the great projects just don’t make sense. How the hell can you ‘upgrade’ the pyramids.

They are pretty ruined nowadays, you could renovate them to the original state, replacing the layers of stones that have been removed, restore the original white and polished limestone and the golden top. In ancient times the pyramids where glittering in the sun and full moon.

Edit: InvisibleBison said almost the same just before me :)
