No.
No.
No.
No.
No.
Goal is to play in a manner responsive to the demands of the time, throughout, and then be surprised and disappointed when the "IT'S 1453 STOP HAVING FUN" screen appears.

Because god forbid you should play a game for the purpose of fun rather than define yourself by how promiscuous an achievement whore you can be.

I don't mean this particularly to tell you I HATE YOU AND YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG, but rather to illustrate that your playgoals are not everyone's playgoals. And, indeed, your playgoals sound downright silly to some people.
Well, me.

Maybe my fun is achieving the hard crap? And my playgoals are no more silly than yours.

Some work might be needed. That whole AI Hivemind thing is really ruining the rep for all synths, even the law-abiding citizens of Rixi Hive.

Well it's not like I'm planning on playing for long before the patch comes out anyways. :D

Some people have fun conquering the galaxy, some people have fun breaking the game by achieving something that devs did not intend (without cheating), some people have fun playing diplomatically, some people have fun achieving achievements, some people have fun achieving the victory screen.

None of these are more valid than the other.

As other games by PDX have an end date, where you see a nation score where you hopefully are in top that can be considered the victory screen.

As Stellaris has no end date as such victory conditions are needed to fullfill the fun of those who wish to see the victory screen.

Get down from your high horses please.

for me PDX titles have allways been about my own goals, for me at the moment it is a galaxy where smug slugs can be smug with eachother and ignroe teh rest of the world while smoking pipes and talking about being smug with other smug slugs, thus began the great purge of the galaxy except for two other races that happened to be smug slugs aswell.

as for the end game crises...they feel like more mid game crises...if you can get to the portal unbidden is easy...the scurge..well ive never seen them be a threat in any game where they have arrived, they rarely expand at any rapid pace, but ive never had borders near them when they arrived soo...

as for the AI, thats the one thats the real challenge if it starts the chain reaction in all other empires.

The faction system should be able to trigger civil wars, where fleet is split up and devided amonst factions and so forth, armies too.

At no point in time did I invalidate your goals in game. I just made a suggestion as to what the actual hard stuff in game could be. And to be honest, I'm having fun with what I suggested above right now.

I certainly wouldn't enjoy the tedium of actually achieving the victory screen once its near certain I will, because I left any other opponent in the game in the dust and the rest would be waiting. But I don't mind you doing it either.

However the OP aksed what would be the point to go on. Both our answers seem to converge on "play to have fun" and the logical consequence of not having fun anymore, would be to abandon the game and start a new one.

Right, I quoted you but the answer developed into a more generalized answer to everyone in the thread that thinks their way of playing is superior. Sorry, wasn't specifically aimed at you.

The point though is that nothing is going to happen now unless I press the issue. The end game content triggered and fizzled. There is no way my empire will falter.

I could unpause the game and it would continue for 200 years and my empire would still be at the top, only stronger.

There needs to be much much more to do otherwise your no longer playing a game.
The game can't last eternally. If the end game crises hadn't fizzled, so what? You would have beat it and still been on top.

Eventually you conquer the galaxy, get satisfied with where you stand, start a new game, or play something else. That's just how things go.
