Continuing this game seem rather pointless, especially since I am supposed to be a pacifist.

I just took the capital ring world system from one FE(I'm a pacifist I swear), the prethoryn's have shown up and someone got the queen. They clearly have stalled beyond usefulness.

20160525182827_1.jpg

The other FE I have met considers themselves superior but they wouldn't stand a chance. The strongest alliance/federation doesn't worry me alone, let alone with my federation. Only a few empires have more tech than me presently and my empires research only grows.

As a pacifist the only option currently is to hope the invaders get a second wind or go on the offensive. Which upsets the populous. As far as I can see, this game is over. The only way to lose it would be to disband my fleets and not rebuild.

We need a way to peacefully break other alliances up so we can invite other empires into our federation or vassalise them.

The victory conditions set are not going to be met without a lot of intervention in the way of war.

Become a "We must invade Iraq to PREVENT war" kind of pacifist.

Anyone who picks up weapons other than yourself has to be euthanised for the sake of "International peace and stability".

It's what Boutros Boutros Ghali would have wanted.

I wish we could have more purpose to continue after this.
We only have 2 victory type and we rarely use our science ship after this.
No more anomalies or special projects.

I wish other empire can be stronger and advance like us.

Edit: spelling.

I do hope PD regrets adding this, it does nothing but gives wrong mindset to some people.
The point though is that nothing is going to happen now unless I press the issue. The end game content triggered and fizzled. There is no way my empire will falter.

I could unpause the game and it would continue for 200 years and my empire would still be at the top, only stronger.

There needs to be much much more to do otherwise your no longer playing a game.

Due to diplomatic irregularity I am obliged to quote this in order to agree with it, rather than just clicking a green tick.

So yes, I agree entirely. Attempting to olive-branch casuals in this manner (and, let's face it, any manner) was an egregious mistake.

This is objective problem.
Besides obvious lack of content in some areas, game has serious snowballing issues. The bigger you are the easier it to grow even more.

Continuing is pointless, it was from the start. If you don't enjoy the current state, start over, challenge yourself with a less optimal build or do something else. PDX-Games have allways been about playing until you get bored of your particular position. All open ended games are. And Stellaris is an open ended game, regardless of what the "victory condition" might say. You know achieving that victory condition is a formality at this point, so considerd yourself the winner and start over.

There is obviously supposed to be a much more functional, internal-politics, CK2-style-sector-rebellion mechanic.

I would think this would solve midgame stagnation as well as endgame stagnation if it actually worked.

If I reached that stage I'd consider it my own victory condition and start again with a new trait/government. The good thing about the different perks you play with is the replayability is huge in this game. Rather than be a pacifist be the complete opposite. Start again with a couple extra Advanced Start AIs and see how you fare. Or, wait for the update when they're adding in the "Aggressiveness" slider for the AI and change that.

In my Rixi game I thought about ending after conquering a second FE. Before the end of that war AI uprising had begun behind two very hostile federations, I got access to jumpdrives and my 90k armada was reduced to just 1 battleship(!!!). Suffice to say, it just got interesting.

My armada insisted on using Tachyon lances. That my battleships have two of. The rest of fleet have none. The enemy had lots... Add an admiral with a no retreat policy and, well...

Now, don't get it wrong, I didn't lose them all in one battle. It was a war of attrition, one where I considered being left with 10-15k of a fleet sufficient to stave off my many enemies. Then, I lost 25k flat against <10k of FE ships. Never had lost that badly. Ever.

I get the impression Stellaris would be better with an end date, rather than an end goal.

CK2, EU4, Vic2, etc all work in a finite time frame allowing the player to set their own goals and see what they can achieve.

4X games all have set victory conditions and usually, an infinite time period to achieve them in.

I don't really see why they adopted the 4X approach, it isn't better than what they normally do, especially as tech is finite.

The unfortunate thing there is I had the swarm event. Do the other end game events trigger if one has already?

If I reached that stage I'd consider it my own victory condition and start again with a new trait/government. Technically my third game. Setting up custom races and testing them out to ensure they should survive.

20160525201633_1.jpg 20160525201726_1.jpg

Advanced starts don't help the AI, hopefully the new fixes in the AI in 1.1 will help out.

I assume you are playing on insane ai. If not increase difficulty and try a new game and beat cheating ai this time

Not on insane, although you shouldn't be able to do this every time you play on normal. Normal should be of normal difficulty, not entry level easy.

Also the AI cheats on all difficulties. Just like CK2 and EU4, the AI sees what it shouldn't.

Whining about victory conditions where there is no end date.

In EU4, CK2 etc. there is an end date, goal is to be the baddest mofo at that time (or at least still be alive depending on what you start as)

In Stellaris there are no hard achievements for small nations, since everyone starts equal. Victory conditions are necessary to give the drive forward a purpose.

I don't know how advanced the "advanced" start for the AI empire is. But, it is possible to be the smallest fish in the pond if you so wish.

No.
No.
No.
No.
No.
Goal is to play in a manner responsive to the demands of the time, throughout, and then be surprised and disappointed when the "IT'S 1453 STOP HAVING FUN" screen appears.
In Stellaris there are no hard achievements for small nations, since everyone starts equal. Victory conditions are necessary to give the drive forward a purpose.
Because god forbid you should play a game for the purpose of fun rather than define yourself by how promiscuous an achievement whore you can be.

I don't mean this particularly to tell you I HATE YOU AND YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG, but rather to illustrate that your playgoals are not everyone's playgoals. And, indeed, your playgoals sound downright silly to some people.
Well, me.
