What is the most you have drifted from your start postion? (Intentionally or not)

I just started a game with the new Reapers. No concrete goals really, just go with the flow and RP a bit.

I started as a Finish Suomenusko count of Soumi. Very soon the King of Svitjord came knocking so I thought it best to swear fealty to him. So I converted to Germanic to make him like me. Over a few generations the culture also changed to Norse.
Suddenly i inherited Holland which was a much better country than the Finish backwater tribe. Seems that some distant sibling has been an adventurer. It also made me a vassal of middle Francia. Since I was afraid of having my title revoked I converted to Catholic and French. I spend many years just building up Holland.

Since I played with Random invasions the sunset invasion happend not that long into the game. At first they were fairly passive just taking bits of Ireland and England. Then suddenly all of England in an invasion war, then some provinces in Benelux. I managed to get independence by joining that faction, incidentally lead by my brother who owned the old lands back in Finland.

Being very afraid of the Aztecs I swore fealty to them as soon as I got independence. Since they are pagan I could not convert to their religion. They did revoke a few vassal but overall my demesne was spared. After a few generation I manged to convert to their religion also. its very practical to be able to sacrifice prisoners at any time.

So yeah, from Finish Suomenusko count of Soumi to Aztec Duke of Holland.

Anyone else have crazy "drifting" stories to share?

One of my first CK2 game, just before (or just after ? I don't remember well) Legacy of Rome was released.

Started as an Irish Count in Ireland (1066). Conquered Ireland, then Scotland, then Norway. Was expelled from Great Britain by members of my own family. Managed to won a crusade over Jerusalem. Conquered Egypt. Was expelled from Norway. The Byzantine Empire conquered Jerusalem.

Finished as an Egyptian king of Misr.

Like a good many people, I've done a Norse India but also a Norse Israel.

I also once ended up as the Danish Queen of Navarra starting off as Denmark in 1066 after several generations in due to a few untimely deaths.

Strangest one by far though was probably when I had my Norwegian Ireland game and ended up as the Emperor of Carpathia, starting off as the Count of Vedrafjord in 1066. To make a long story short, I had intermarried with the Arpad for several generations until my French brother (his culture was the result of a French adventurer who took a county in Ireland) ended up as the Duke of Transylvania who then overthrew the King of Hungary and created Carpathia. He then warred with the Byzantines and ended up castrated with only a few daughters to his name. By dumb luck his realm was Agnatic, leaving me as his closest heir.

Nothing too crazy for me. Went from High Chief of Vastergotland to king of Pomerania a few times and on this patch I decided to go from chief of Ostergotland to king of Frisia. Both were intentional.

In fact this is what I almost always try to do in my games. It's just fun. Isn't this what everyone does?

I played for centuries as the Doux of Antioch, constantly defending Byzantium against Muslim invaders. And one day I decided to simply not give a damn. I conquered Aragon, Tunis and Sicily, turned Messalian and proclaimed independence. I formed a Merchant Republic, converted the game to EU4 and went on to dominate the world.

From Catholic Visigothic count of Roselló to Jain Catalan India... and with my rulers being descendants of the Saoshyant and with a vassal Fylkir.
The tricky part was staying Catalan despite changing everything else.

I started as a minor count in Burgundy, happily marrying my children left and right to whoever wanted them. A few generations later, my main branch dies and a Russian orthodox noble from Pskov inherits. Then, the mongols came and ate Russia, in the end I chose a Crusade to declare my independence and become duke of Estonia,

Iceland to Sri Lanka, for a Norse India game from Charlemagne start. Took forever, wouldn't recommend, Just use Haestein for Norse India.

Apart from general short term fooling around (i.e. one generation games as Nantes) I've drifted twice. The first one was my very first game as the O'Brians of Munster (what else) in which I unintentionally ended up in Lithuania.

The other one was a recent republic game, in which I started as Rikulfr Ulfing in 867 and conquered Famagusta, later establishing a merchant republic there (k_Cyprus can be formed if Catholic) and granting independence to my Swedish provinces. It's as close to playing as an adventurer as we currently can get.
I went for the "Who needs Vasco da Gama?" achievement but didn't want to blob so with carefully fabricated claims I got the five coastal trade stations in India and nothing else. Fun game all in all, it lasted until the early 14th century but was aborted with the arrival of Reapers Due. I really wish I had started it with RD enabled as the diseases are surely devastating for republic clinging along the silk road...

I became An Anglo-Saxon Byzantine Emperor once, that was a mess. My Characters mother was a Byzantine princess (born in purple and all that jazz) Since the ruling Dynasty was insanely hated (Iconoclast and everyone else wasnt, among other things) they went and chose old King Wine II to take the the throne, that lasted for about 3 years before he was ousted in favour of his younger brother.

There was that time I did a Mali game that saw all of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East converted into West African Mande, with the Mali throne in Constantinople. But that was ages ago, pre-ROI.

Post-ROI, greatest would have to be starting off as a tiny Bengal Buddhist, and eventually moving my capital to Baghdad - while the rest of Europe converted to Buddhism by force. Never changed my own faith, Buddhist Holy War all the way through.

Eh, nothing dramatic like these insane stories in here.
My last pre- reaper's due game had me start as the basque count of Vizcaya in the Charlemagne start, immediately pushed Charlie's claim on Asturias so I can take over his empire from within as well as not get eaten by Al-Andalus, took some random french counties, gavelkind made the empire fracture, so I eventually lost Vizcaya and moved my capital to Liege, by the time RD came out and I aborted the campaign, I was the Holy roman empress with my capital in Brugge and all my demesne in Flanders.

My current game had me play as Khazaria, Invade Khiva, then Persia, then Mesopotamia to which I moved my capital after genociding Baghdad, and eventually I took the promised land and abandoned my nomad ways, settling in jerusalem.
I also made about half of the world's Sayyid into jews.

Wow, you folks have some amazing drifts.

The biggest drift I got was as Vandad Karen, when I swore fealty to the Samanids and got converted to Islam against my will. I quit and restarted, more than a little annoyed. I once tried to be Cathar in some county in south eastern France, but the Inquisition pretty much ended that.

The furthest I drifted was a Pre-Conclave Norse-Germanic conquest from Iceland to India ended the game with only 3 independant states, A Mongol-Germanic Feudal King, and an Indian-Norse Queen standing next to Fylkir Jevard Örvarson IV.

Had a Game where Harold Godwinson's Grandson led an Anglo-Saxon Crusade against a Cathar Italy and won, before a faction made Arthur Godwinson's Brother King of England and I was forced to be a vassal of his as the King of Italy, didn't get to go much further in that game

I've got nothing on you guys but I did have one interesting situation. While playing as a custom Holy Order from an 1101 start I joined in the Second Crusade for Jerusalem. A short while later I was joined by the Templars and the Hospitallers, which were led by twin Norse brothers from Genoa.

I've never gone back to the files to see if this is from the history files or just a pure fluke, but I thought it was kind of neat at the time.
