Yes, I have seen that and done that since the Heavy Armor is slow anyway and leg rather than motorized inf bns is a useful economy for some countries. Celere DIvision style armor + cavalry is a similar useful compromise for Light or Medium tanks when better is not in the budget.

Why choose motorized rocket artillery over SPA?

To keep the motorized designation to get the bonuses from a Cavalry Military High Command officer or from the doctrine tree you're using. You can use both, of course, and that's the way to get the most dangerous fire-breathers who will still have good org and an awesome recovery rate if you're using the Mobile INF side of the Mobile Warfare tree.

If you take the six battalion generic motorized division template and add two light tanks it'll become a LT division. However if you add a LT, a L-SPA and a L-TD it will stay designated as motorized and still get those wonderful bonuses. If that's not enough firepower for you (like me sometimes) then start adding more L-SPA and Motorized Rocket artillery, too much L-SPA and it will become a L-SPA division and lose the bonuses. That's where Motorized Rocket Artillery comes in, it allows you to add more dragon fire without losing the motorized designation.

I'm also thinking like using just infantry in the heavy tank divisions up till 1940 when the mechanized troops come out. I see no reason to spend like a shit ton of IC on motorized for just that extra 1 KMP speed. What do you guys think?

I've never thought of motorized as expensive, and almost never use the HT-1. If you're going to, you might as well use cavalry with them to keep their 'speed' as it's all relative. That division would still be 25% faster than foot-sloggers and that does matter sometimes.

Motorized equipment makes up less than 1% of the production cost of an armored division...

You can be short on tanks and keep moving at speed, but if short some trucks it's a long slow walk.

You guys are awesome! Wonderful to know that there’s people who know so much about division building! :)

I just tried the heavy armor division I came up with. It’s not really worth it, regrettably...It’s very expensive, very slow and doesn’t do a much better job at breakthrough than Light Tanks. Its only advantage is armor and sometimes it still gets pierced by enemy foot soldiers for some reason lol...

I sometimes use the HT-2 with Mech, but yes it's obscenely expensive, it's much tougher to pierce if you max the armor on the tanks and give it Mech in a 15xHT-2 5xMech arrangement or thereabouts.

Another good option that's significantly cheaper is using the MT-2 with max armor, send volunteers and/or lend lease to Spain and China to get your Army Experience for the armor.

OMG I totally didn't think of that...I usually just leave those barbarians to their fate lol

Do you go down the Mobile Infantry path or the Blitzkrieg path?

Spain is a great way to learn the basics of HoI IV combat and China is often the most fun I'll have playing a game, especially with releases where the Japanese are truly formidable. If you don't have the troops to send, give them lend lease. ~500 rifles a month to the Nats and ~250 to the Commies is what I usually send, though I've not yet played a position this release where doing that was a viable option and now all the warlords are independent too it seems, I don't know if you ought to send goodies to them as well or not.

Edit to add:
I usually use the mobile infantry as you can really have fun tricking out your MI and it's fast and effective. If I play a position like Turkey then I use Blitzkrieg.

LOL. That never occurred to me. That works? I blithely presumed that the diplomacy routine would cancel any benefits out.

Yes, but to continue to receive benefits, don't cut them off or send one big lump and no more. Make sure they get something every month.

It doesn't work like that for airplanes though, you can send them a one time offering and you'll still get air experience even though you're not sending anything monthly.

Most offensive division? I´d say it would be rather offensive if the soldiers took off all their clothes and started shouting insults at the enemy.

I´ll show myself out, thank you.

17 moderns + 3 Tier III HT with MW doctrine, MI to keep the line.
if you want to go a bit more cost effective exchange the moderns with MT III.
For pure damage lots of SPA/ART.

If you really like heavies use cavalry.
