I've heard the USSR needs to have a minimum amount of manpower deployed on the German border to keep the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact enforced. I thought I read that if the USSR has too few units on the border, the Germans can break the pact early, and invade well before the traditional start of Barbarossa in June 1941. As the USSR, I have about 1 mil manpower on the border right now in Jan 1940, and I'm hoping that's enough to maintain the pact for 17 more months.

Or maybe I'm mistaken, and it's the USSR that can break the Pact early, if the Germans don't have enough troops on the other side of that same border?

Either way, can someone tell me how this works? I poked around the events folder, and I can't find anything about this.

OK, thanks for the link. The wiki says:

Not cancellable without having a common border or within the first 12 months of the pact. After 12 months, the ability to break a NAP will depend on the relative size of armies along the common border. Up to 18 months past the NAP, the country will require a 2:1 ratio of troops compared to its opponent on the common border. Between 18 and 24 months, a 1:1 ratio is required. Past 24 months after the NAP, a 1:2 ratio is required to break the pact. NAPs dissolve after four years.

So it sounds like I'm safe for the first 12 months, no matter what. Then, as long as I have at least 50% of the manpower of the German border armies, I should be good until the Germans break the NAP anyway in June 1941.

Clarifying question- does "armies along the common border" literally only mean the provinces touching the border, or can the troops be stationed in any province in the bordering state? I'd like to have several rows of entrenched defenders to handle unforeseen breaks in the line.

Only touching and only direct borders, so doesn't count divisions in Hungarian if Romanian Border.

Also it purely counts division count, no manpower.
