Hello,

I have a NEGATIVE modifier in my military power due general cap and I don't understand how it works. This window says that I can hold even 7 leaders. I don't know why I have a penalty

You can support 7 leaders, but only 1 of them are free(They dont use any Military power). Anything above 1 in this situation will cost you 1 MP per leader. Except for kings and heirs, they dont cost anything.

It appears you can only have one free leader because the (3/1) represents your free general cap. The "you can support seven leaders" probably means that you can have MAX 7 leaders but every leader over 1 will cost MIL power to maintain.

If you use All the leaders allowed you will stagnate in Technology levels and Ideas.(No mil mon power gained/month) Also I take it to mean you will only put your leaders in your most important(biggest) units and leave a lot of Armies leaderless.......but probably we'll find players pausing the game and "Teleporting" Generals all over the place to work around it because the Leaders are so important to Combat in Game.

Maybe, we should have the leaders as diplomatics or merchants that they have to move in the map with travel time and not insta-teleport to the destination.

This seems like the only logical solution - I wonder why they didn't implement it :/. One can do fine with ruler/heir as leaders and one free admiral - its annoying, but gameplay-wise there is no penalty. I hate when they leave such obvious ways to game the system :(

I've never really understood why generals cannot be physical units on the map in EU games. Sure, it takes a bit of micromanagement, but IMO that's not a bad thing for such a powerful factor. It would solve this whole insta-teleport thingy completely.

What could possibly be the benefit of this? Unnecessary micromanagement.

I just specified the benefit: no more unrealistic movement of generals. As generals are so important for battles, I think that this is a great benefit.

No exploiting of instant general movement from France to Indo-China, then back again?

Do you think 'fixing' that exploit is worth all that trouble? Sounds pain in the ass to me.

Besides, it can't be that hard to implement travel time somehow. I mean, they do that with your diplomats already, as they return to the capital for further orders.

Edit:
I just specified the benefit: no more unrealistic movement of generals. As generals are so important for battles, I think that this is a great benefit.

Yeah, sorry, bad wording on my behalf. What I meant was more like "is it really worth it?"

I think he means actual physical movement of the generals over having some kind of travel time from and to the armies and the capital or whatever.

This is the pinnacle of gamey mechanics in Paradox games. Oh, how much fun I'll be having constantly juggling the same leader to fight successive battles in three different continents.

So let me get this straight: You advance less in military technology because you hire Napoleon Bonaparte. Yeah, makes sense alright...

I think he means actual physical movement of the generals over having some kind of travel time from and to the armies and the capital or whatever.

While it is an improvement over the current situation, it 1) does not reduce micromanagement compared to the current situation OR to physically moving generals and 2) would still be unrealistic in a lot of cases. For example, you have two armies near each other but far from the capital. If you use the merchant travel time system, the general would travel for quite a while. Another case: two armies are separated by enemy forces. With abstract moving systems, you can relocated the general with no problem, but in reality this would be quite difficult.

It's one of the few thing the strategic layer of the Total War games does better than the EU series.

the unrealism can be solved by enabling generals to immediately go to another army. So if you go to the Generals tab in your army, you see all your generals, with their position and army name in brackets behind it.
E.g.
Christopher Columbus (Indian Sea, Colonization Fleet)

if you click him, he will have only the travel time from the Colonization Fleet to the new Fleet.

Well yeah, but without the hassle of needing to assign him a sloop and a bunch of rowers.

We could give generals the ability to cross water (and admirals to cross land), as it wouldn't be unrealistic for a general + staff to book passage on a ship.

Anyway, I would be also very glad if your suggestions would be used. It's just that the current system could be much improved without too much trouble.
