What is the First Nation you are going to play as and what will be your strategy in Hoi IV

First game, I think I'll try the USA.

My plan is to go communist (thanks Obama) and unite the two cold war superpowers into one faction. Overall, my goals would be supporting the Soviets , curbing Japanese and European imperialism in Asia and, if possible, "liberating" Canada.

Japan first for sure. one major improvement over hoi3 to me is all of the air and naval game improvements and i'm really really looking forward to a dramatic pacific war as the underdog, rather than HOI3s experience which was more like

"defeat USA's first few fleets by ping ponging them back and forth until all their ships are sunk"

"invade wake, midway and pearl"

"every six months or so destroy 5 transport flotillas carrying 2 marine divisions that try to attack midway or wake with no escort"

repeat the final step for several years until USA manages to drain its own manpower pool. invade the US to get rid of the last 100 or so manpower and manage to push west to east against an army that can't reinforce any of its strong divisions while you can take 10 to 1 losses and still be "winning" due to incredible japanese manpower build up with service by requirement and holding all of china, india, south east asia, australia etc

Japan

1. Focus on industry build up, and research better infantry equipment and land doctrines.
2. Invade and annex China.
3. Attack Dutch East Indies, Indochina, and Malayasia in order to get rubber and oil.
4. Forget the United States. Try and stay on their good side as long as possible.
5. Begin focus on Navy. I need to prepare for a possible future war against the United States.
6. If the United States joins the Allies, which they probably will, I'll join the Axis and use my new Navy to do as much damage to the Americans as possible.

Of course this strategy relies on a late US entry, and it also relies on Germany and Italy doing very well in Europe. Even then, I doubt I'll be able to invade the United States directly. The most I'll be able to do is take all their Pacific holdings and sit tight until they'll accept peace.

I'll consider my goals completed once I control all of Eastern China, Indochina, Malaysia, Dutch East Indies, and possibly even Thailand.

It's very ambitious, and chances are I will make a bad mistake somewhere along the line and screw myself over. No matter what the outcome is, though, I'm sure it'll be extremely fun, and I can't wait to try this.

I will play Finland and join the Axis and try to kick Russias ass with the help of Germany and then unite all of Scandinavia under me.

I'll either play as Germany or Hungary for my first play-through.
As Germany I'll just test around the game mechanics and try not to lose.
As Hungary I'll try and restore the Kingdom's borders.

I haven't decided yet between Italy or somebody smaller, like Hungary or Romania. I will probably pick Italy and just focus on doing my part while I learn all the new mechanics.

I'll try a game as France first, I think. I've been playing them a lot recently on HoI III. I reckon I'll try a Maginot Line expansion first, so I have something nice to sit behind while I re-organise the French military using the XP gained from probing attacks. No idea if that'll be viable but I'll give it a damn good go.

Second game will have to be the UK, then Germany with both following roughly historical paths.

Germany, I'm gonna see how smart the Soviet AI is by setting a trap, loading up Hungary and Slovakia with troops and pulling an "Anvil" force back to the original Polish border, let the Soviets move in and then cut across with the "Hammer" force to Konigsberg, then kesseling the Soviet forces trapped inside before pushing for Moscow.

Or France and see if I can stop the blitzkrieg.

Germany with the plan to conquer the world.

No not really, I'll do what I do with most Paradox games, play the weakest great power that has to also face all aspects of the game. In EU that is Portugal, in Vicky that is Austria-Hungary, and in HoI that is Italy. Doing so requires you to look at everything the game requires but with a harsh task master that swiftly and painfully corrects any mistakes. My strategy will be to reform the Roman Empire, make the Mediterranean a Mare Nostrum, support Germany, surrender by 1943, and then have my son-in-law executed... wait, this isn't CK. Never mind on the last one.

Fjeldabe is a badge of honour in my book All Norwegians see them self as mountaineers and conquerors of the poles, even if they sit on the couch 17 hours a day you see

Well, yes you guessed it.. Germany....

Why? I love the challenge and actually don't mind if I lose. I love to play as Germany particularly when everything is falling apart and trying to stop the red wave on the east front and the Allies on the southern and eastern front. Launching audacious large scale counter attacks late war against the almost invincible red army with the few strong panzer divisions and support aircraft I have left and trying to pull off a miracle is what I plan on doing first.

The last major German counteroffensives like Operation Spring Awakening, Battle of the Bulge, Operation Solstice, Nordwind etc. really fascinate me as the situation was so hopeless but yet the Wehrmacht still attacked with considerable venom given the near hopeless circumstances eg. outnumbered, out gunned, allied aerial dominance.
