What is the First Nation you are going to play as and what will be your strategy in Hoi IV

First game will be the country of the tutorial, aka Italy.
Then for my first true game, it will be with Germany, USSR or USA. No idea of what I'll do, in every case I'll follow historical path.

Theres no ski or White Death research. Finland is so nerfed from IRL.

Italy, but haven't decided between these two yet:

Axis Italy: Join Germany, attack the French and UK with them and try to end up with a Mediterranean Empire.

Independent Italy: Start own faction, try to win over nearby countries, wreck havoc over Yugoslavia, Albania, Greece and Turkey and then target the colonies.


I think Brits and French are natural targets for Italian expansionism but I don't really care about the Soviet clay, which is why I'm unsure about this Hitler guy. Might be he's more trouble than he's worth...

Then I will play Turkey in MP with a friend of mine (who will be playing Italy), turn fascist and try to restore the Ottoman Empire

Since I never played HoI before, either:

Britain (home country)
Germany (I imagine its probably pretty easy)

It may be easier than, say Japan, but perhaps Italy could be a good option as well. You could be the junior partner in the Axis and focus on retaking Africa and the Balkans. Actually, that sounds like a good second play-through for me!

The first game will be the only time we will ever play entirely without hindsight, exactly as per podcat's design goal. Therefore I expect to stay on pause for at least two days, never leave speed 1, and hopefully spend weeks on it. I'll always be France, and I'll always go with the petite entente.

As much as I want to try my hand at Nationalist Spain, I actually think I will play as the USA for the first game and play rather historically. All of them sound fun though!

We will probably play it relatively straight. Go axis, partition the Balkans. Maybe I can head off Anschluß and restore the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
