What is the difference between an army next to the Field Marshall versus below it

What is the difference between an army sitting next to the Field Marshall versus below it - here in my screenshot - I have an army next to the FM

Now I have moved that army to below the FM, next to all the other armies - Please see screenshot

What is the effective difference ?

An independent army, If you have two field marshals in the same theater they will also be side by side.

in the first picture the division is basically acting independent and not under the influence of a FM. I think you can just put divisions there to make it easier then opening up another theater window.
It helps out because generally those divisions will be in same sort area as the ones under a FM

Second picture your division will get Field Marshall bonuses.
