What is the biggest demesne that you managed to attain?

Playing as the Byzantine empire, I have managed to get a demesne size of 14 (14 counties along with the appropriate counties

Right now I am at about 10.

I'm curious to know what other players have managed

70 right now through banishing people as the HRE. The game becomes unplayable once you get that high though due to demesne too large events happening every 3 days.

Personally about 13 since i refrain from using gravelkind, however hitting high twenties low thirties should be possible:

4 (Being Byz emperor) + 5 from max legalism + 10 from 30 stewardship + 5 from 30 stewardship wife = 24 * 1,3 = 31,2

~370, that's what I get after finishing an invasion of HRE. But my original demense is only 13, going to reduce it to 12

I'm pretty sure the OP is talking about max demense that you could actually manage, ie. not beyond the limit :laugh:

The highest I've managed was earlier in my Duke of Brittany game where I had 13/13. Highest above cap was the same game where I won a Crusade in Spain and had 82/10.

Doesn't gavelkind only give a +1 bonus? You make it sound like gavelkind is easy gamey mode, then you talk about getting characters with 30 stewardship as if they're an everyday occurrence that come along without gaming the wealth ambition.

No, gavelkind gives a +30% modifier to your raw demesne limit. And it's actually the "become steward" ambition that you can game, not the wealth one (which only fires once). Although hiring and firing advisors will eventually make them hate you...

Highest (mostly legitimate) total was around 15-16. I used the Ruler Creator to make a genius character specializing in stewardship, and put pretty much all my points into learning and stewardship (some to diplomacy). Married a genius woman, and that number of 15 was my son's demesne limit. Capital was in Palermo, so I got a bonus from Islamic legalism as well.

managed to reach around 18 at end game, legalism 5, genius, just, patient, temperate, dilligent, midas touched, gavelkind (but all my demesne was in a single primogeniture kingdom so it was impossible to split), and an insane base stewardship

Highest Ive had was 15 after becoming Emperor of the ERE and then restoring the Empire as Britania. didnt use gavelkind.

I think I reached 13 or 14 without gamey breeding tactics (ok yes, trying to focus on stewardship and finding a good steward wife). However it always reverse to 8 or 9 at the next character as for some reason, my awesome king always dies old, his son died before and I couldn't educate and marry the grandson myself...

I used to worry about this, then I changed the defines for the limits. Now Stewardship provides little and more comes from Legalism and rank. Makes for an overall better game in my view.

I usually shoot for 14. Anything beyond that is not sustainable across multiple generations if you play standard. If you go for a midas touched based heir in each generation, you should be able to manage 12-14 fairly easily. I have had the number in the low 20s, but I have rarely ever kept that much for more than a generation (note, I never let gavelkind stay for long, even election based systems are better imo, so I don't get that boost). I generally have around 10 in the early game and 12-14 in the late game.

I usually try to hold 2 strong duchies and all counties in them. My favourites are Brittany and Sicily. Brittany is easy to hold or conquer, and Sicily has amazing tech and a good position in the Mediterranean. Both are coastal all the way, which is the biggest strength. Sicily and Brittany = 12, I think.
