It's Crusader Kings 2 for me. The game is simply a masterpiece in organic storytelling. It's so much fun to roleplay characters in what feels like a vibrant, living world. Honestly, it's definitely the best Paradox game for peacetime interaction: unlike other games that lack in peacetime mechanics, I never find myself sitting idly in CK2.

I don't want to sadden Dan so im voting for Hearts of Iron IV. My most played Paradox game. At second place it's got to be Crusader Kings II. @ThatShawnGuy basically summed it up. Roleplay and immersivness is on another level. It's also my second most played game. I recently acquired Stellaris. I like it but I haven't been playing it much. I'll definetly do so soon. Europa Univeralis IV is not my cup of tea. CK2 does a much better job at immersing you. Also, I tried playing both CK2 and EU4 without expansions. CK2 is way better.

HOI4 boys where you at? Let's make Dan proud.

As much as I like EU4, CK2, Hoi4. I find that Stellaris has one of the most potentials and could possibly go anywhere. Which is why it gets my vote, with the other games they are fixed to a period and mechanics that are firmly entrenched. Which is why I feel that Stellaris just needs some more time as Paradox hasn't done anything like it before so for its potential I think it could be the best or will be one day.

Of the ones I've played I would say Crusader Kings II, but Europa Universalis III and Hearts of Iron 2 were massive for me so probably those two for nostalgic reasons.

I was getting nervous not seeing anyone saying HOI IV :p

I like the focus on combat, because that part of it feels much more integral to the game and engaging than, say, EU 4. Because the game is based around war, you can focus on it and have your strategies directed to that goal. And at least it's not a bunch of waiting time to complete sieges in order to win. It's faster paced and also more accessible to new players.

I have barely played Vicky 2, I find it too overwhelming, but it's a very interesting game. Peace time is actually pretty fun despite how daunting the mechanics are. Honorable mention to CK2 as well, the reasons have already been posted above.

Personally, due to my net-worth being under 10,000 USD, I've only played two Paradox Games, and one of the two is HOI IV. It's a relatively fun game, especially if you play it like me, A.K.A blitzing through South America as a Fascist Brazil. I've never tried multiplayer, but I hear that's pretty good as well. I'd say, since I've actually played it Cities:Skylines. I've actually as I scrubbed through this thread, found no-one mentioning it. Then again, I think it was only published by Paradox... but meh.

Either way that's my take on it.

The (relevant) Games I played are EU3, EU4, HOI3, HOI4, CK2, Stellaris and Vic2.

HOI 4 is (in my personal opinion) just a bad game. Not worth playing ever again. It should be a wargame but the war aspects are just inferior to other games. The upsides like the very well done production are things that i wish other similar games would copy but they dont make up for the bad main-parts. So HOI4 is at the bottom of the list.

Stellaris is second to last. A very fun early game but a boring mid- to lategame (Again, just my personal opinion, i know others like it).

Next is CK2. The first game on the list that i consider truly good. I played a couple hundret hours and had a lot of fun but im just done with it.

EU3...well, i havnt played it since EU4 release, so guess i have to rank it below that. The game that got me into paradox titles and i loved it.

EU4 is the game i played the most out of all these titles. I consider it a very good game. Im not a fan of "mana" but i dont hate it. So its not a perfect game but to me still a VERY good one. The reason i played it more then the next two are because its more modern to look at, its stable in multiplayer and its way more easy to get friends that arent as big fans of those games into it to play with them.

Second spot goes to Vic2. To me personally the replayabilitiy of vic is not THAT high and thats why it gets the second spot. But the music alone made it almost to the top. Amazing game but only for houndrets of hours - not thousands.

HOI3 gets the top spot because of BICE. Would be on third without it. I have more fun just building up to the war than i have with 95% of all games i ever played.

CK2. I don't like EU4, not enough immersive. I like the idea of playing a dynasty in an "empire". Since there is always people behind a realm. And sometimes "important" people can fuck up a country by selfishness, dynasty personnal interest or other negative traits. More deep in CK2.
