Each nation is different
if I am at china I stop playing around 1650-1750
If I am france I play to very end(I love france)
If I am in africa I play until I unite third of africa so mostly around 1550
If I am horde I allways have a target and once that target is fulfilled I stop so it can be literally anything
If I am England or Austria I almost complete the campaign (end it like 30 years early)

Usually I play until I'm clearly the strongest nation in the game. I fight one big war against other great powers but after that I'm bored. Sometimes it's quick conquest, sometimes I try playing tall in Italy, Netherlands, India or Persia.
Every new patch I start one game to see how much I can conquer by the age of absolutism starting as one of the stronger nations like Ottomans, Timurids, Oirat. It's not optimal conquest but speed 5 most of the time for quick campaign

I tend to stop around 1550-1640 in a successful campaign, and earlier in a failed one. This will either be because I'm just steamrolling all my enemies or I'm now surrounded by people who could easily steamroll me and have no way to progress (since I don't get particularly aggressive, usually there is a while between wars).

The cycle goes like this:

- Reach Age of Absolutism
- Maximize Absolutism and start Court and Country
- Realize that conquering 2x as much land per war doesn't make the game 2x as fun, it actually quickly makes it trivial and boring.
- Get annoyed by the rebels from Court and Country and stop playing.

So around 1610s-1630s is the latest I've played in a long time, though average is probably more like 1580s when you count nations that get too powerful too quickly.

Certain countries keep you interested longer than others.

Russia is one because you have a lot of areas to expand (even to get historical borders) and you can convert pops. Austria has the HRE event chain. England can build the massive British Empire.

However, most countries due tend to get boring by late 1500/early 1600s. I also play quite a bit of MP games and they tend to only last 2-3 sessions.

Most Achievements can also be done by 1600. There are some exception (the Finish game achievement, Poland into space, Furnace achievement).

I used to play all the way until the end, but with the (relatively) recent late-game slowdown it's more like 1650-1700 unless there's an achievement up for grabs.

As an African nation - usually around 1600 when Spain / Mamluks marches across the Sahara and liquidates me :D

As Europeans - f it's an inteersting game like Austria, with lots to do, then into the 1700s / maybe the end.

As per the previous post, I play until whenever the achievement(s) I've been running for are done. On average I'd say this is usually somewhere in the 1600s, think I've only played through to the 1800s a handful of times ever (was needed for One Faith and Poland Can Into Space).

1700 or close to it. That's when moving armies around starts to feel like a chore, completing a checklist of forts, but without much consideration of tactics, strategy, etc.

Depends on how large i am which in turn depends on who i started as and how aggressively i expanded or if i otherwise have a clear lategame goal (forming rome or the like.)

1650-1750 almost always.

Yeah coming back to my point, I really think EU 4 (EU 5) should stop at 1700 and a new title be created for 1700-1820. I think the EU mechanics just don't work for that Age of Revolution period (especially consider massive wars like Seven Years war and Napoleonic War which saw the exchanges of massive land masses far beyond the 100 war score limit such as Canada as well as unique coalition format). Combat in EU4 just doesn't work well for era as well. Siege down Castles just doesn't seem to fit the 1700s which saw most campaigns in open battlefields.
