I'm fairly certain only a single person has ever properly achieved WC without cheating (e.g., mission exploit or achievement unlocker), and that's DDRJake. The most passionate fans are also the ones that participate in the online community, meaning if a WC was actually achieved by someone, it would almost certainly be posted on these forums or somewhere like reddit. Assuming EU4 sold 50,000, which I say would be a healthy estimate, that would mean WC has a real achievement rate of 0.002%. This is technically the lowest it can possibly be besides 0.0%.

A friend of mine put his finger on what was bothering me about this - implementing design and balance changes to make world conquest unattainable by someone in the 99.95% of skill will needlessly punish players in the lower 99%.

No - NO!

DDRJake did use mission exploits. And event bugs. And exile mechanic bugs.

napoleonI posted his WC as soon as he achieved it, but unfortunately for him it also coincided with DDRJake's so it kind of got overlooked. =P Well that and the fact he didn't write an AAR, so it didn't have a 'following' beforehand. Getting a WC with Austria then a day or two later someone getting it with Ryukyu...well it kinda overshadows you a bit. ^^ Hell there may even be more than that who posted, as I don't check every topic, nor do I believe most people here do.

I'd rather have a playable game than meaningful achievements, if that's what it comes down to. If the price of making coalition wars fun is that my Steam chievos are no longer worth bragging to my friends about, I am willing to pay that price. But honestly if 1 in 2000 players can achieve world conquest instead of 1 in 10000 I don't think that makes the achievement meaningless. Being 1 in 2000 is still pretty special.

I don't think that's necessarily true maxirage, I was about 75% of the way through a ryukyu WC before I posted anything of note, and had no intention of bragging on the internet about how awesome I am, this would not be the first achievement I've earned with less than a .1% completion rate without a word on a forum.

Frankly if the game did not prevent a WC from being possible currently and forcibly updating my game to play this "better" version I would have avoided this place like the plague.

Sure, let's make the achievements pointless by making then completely UNattaibable. That makes sense. People who got theirs with bugs and exploits can now sit there happily while the rest of us can only grind their teeth in frustration.

Yet you made it sounds like it was done "properly", which in my opinion shouldn't include any exploits. So the real achievement rate is still 0% without exploits.

The real achievement rate is exactly the number listed because achievements are arbitrary and have no meaning beyond what individuals attach to them. If you're defining an achievement as being done "not using exploits," you've defined a new achievement.

on a side side note, you know I never knew what the 500k icon was for till this thread. I hadn't been on the forums a good couple months and came back when I got eu4 so I thought it was tied to Eu4. I'll make sure I come back in 5 years so I can brag about being here 'back in the day'(only in game's could 5 years be ancient history) and flaunt my icon =P

Wait. What is the 500k club? I still haven't figured it out :l Is it that you've been on the forums for five years?... But that can't be true - I'm newer than that but I do still have it o_O

I had been in this forum since 2007 Good old days of Eu3 Vanilla, when spies + money = cores, and plutocracy + mercantilism = overkill. And spies NI was actualy usefull. Snowballing was easy as hell. Aspecialy since master spies also gave you additional spies as far as i recall... 3 times 6 star grand spies = lot of cores.
