In my opinion, theres a few top priority things that need to be fixed/added ASAP to make the game move from very good to spectacular, including but not limited to :

1) Completely messed up hearse and garbage truck pathfinding (and police, fire, and ambulances to some lesser extent)
2) Resource industry dying off due to lack of workers (because everyone has the same rule : take the best paying job first - and everyone is super qualified equally since they all are PHD university graduates)
3) Map resources (oil and ore) being used up way too quickly and giving way too much money (make it last much longer, and give less profit to balance it out)
4) Death Waves - Everyone living to the same approx age (thereby causing ridiculous death waves)
5) The bug with the asset editor locking elevated portions of roads you create so that they are never modifiable or deletable after you save them (thus ruining all your hard work)
6) Add 4 lane one way roads
7) A reason to use different kinds of power sources (cost/mw means some power sources are basically useless and no one will use them except for possibly visual effect)
8) Being a multi-millionaire mayor by the time you reach 8000 citizens which then gives you no incentive or difficulty for the rest of your game (way too easy to be a multi-millionaire within an hour - you need to crank up either maintenance costs, or lower tax revenues or a combo of the two or do something else)
9) Add in icons for assets downloaded from the workshop (reams of identical icons in my road and service building menu's makes using downloaded assets basically useless for me and many others. I refuse to download roads or service buildings until this issue is fixed since I refuse to hunt through reams of icons for what I want to plop)
10) Completely broken police coverage (one big station in your city is good enough forever).
11) Industry should create wider ground pollution, and you need to add air pollution (otherwise dirty industry is really not difficult to work around as it is)
12) There should be a high density dirty industry option (not commercial offices as it is now - see next point)
13) Make the current "commercial offices" into the high density commercial option replacing what is there (thats where it belongs, not as an upgrade to industry as it currently sits)
14) Fix the completely broken "tourist" system. There should be WAY more tourists coming into cities than do now. (the income generated by tourists now is piddly and makes them basically useless)

Thats all I can think of for now. Fix those things and this game becomes spectacular.

6) Add 4 lane one way roads.

Keep seeing ppl talking about "add 4-lane road", "add one-way roads".

Then i keep thinking "do they really want just 1 more road-option, or would they rather have ALL freedom to build whatever road-type (including one way) they want to build from 1 lane up to 6".
Using a simple slider, like in CiM2 editor.

I sincerely hope i will see this slider back again. We can have so much freedom with road-building and i dont think its that hard to add. We are left to the mods on this, as it is not mod-able.

+1.

If they would just port the entire road network over from CIM2 I would be a happy man.

I didnt play CIM2 so I have no idea what they did or didnt have. Either add 4 lane one way roads (because the have 4 lane 2 way roads, so why is this missing in the first place?) or a slider, I dont care.

I hope more people do care. As you would simply have more freedom in building ur infrastructure.

You should be able to upgrade a 2-way road with parking to a 4-lane with no parking and no removal of the buildings alongside it.

Another thing I would like is a metro that goes above ground onto the surface and also on a raised platform. Or just give us a rail depot so we can run local rail services without connecting to the regional network.

But it does mean that you only have a single freight station handling the import/export, a lot less congestion.

Put a second freight station (or 2) very nearby to handle the internal deliveries to your city. I tried it out on one of my city maps and put a stretch of 6-lane road in the middle of nowhere and put a cargo station at each end, one leading away and the other leading into the city, and I cut all the other cargo outside links. Once it settled down and started the new routing it seemed to working well, but then started complaining about no one collecting the trash.

Let me make sure I understand this. You have one freight station to export industrial out put (and, I assume, receive industrial and commercial imports) and one or more to distribute industrial out put around the city and one or more to receive the industrial out put and distribute it to your commercial. The distribution network is separate from the export network. Am I understanding correctly? Question: How do you keep industrial trucks from going to the commercial distribution stations and causing traffic jams?

Freight Hub.jpg

I bolted this onto an old city to try it out. The 'Export West' and 'Export East' go to the furthest edges before rejoining the main in/out railways so that the freight and passenger trains stay apart, the two lines going into the city merge a little closer to the city. I expect messing with the road network will cut down on congestion but it is moving. I added an incineration plant to stop the complaining about trash build up.

I also tried with a single length of six-lane road with a station at each end which worked but the trains couldn't keep up.

Yes and the occasional refuse truck to stop the trash complaints.

I wish there was a way to get proper throughput data on each station so you could work out if it's more efficient to have more/less stations due to traffic levels. It might work out better to have queuing trains rather than trucks.
It would also help if the in/out parts of the stations for the trucks was further apart so they don't block each other and you could do a one-way road to make sure they don't.

I suppose if you had a really large map you could set up another couple of hubs in regions of the city to cut train congestion further, but that might be over the top.
