Hello all!

Got a little problem...I play as Italy and I conquered all the provinces around the Suez Canal...but I still can't go through it with my navy !?!? Is there something special to do to open the canal to my ships?
The message I got is : "this is beyond the range of these units".
I feel like the game wants me to go all around Africa or something....I also feel like, say : I conquered all of Egypt but some paperworks need to be done before you can go through....we'll call you.....

So ? What's with that?

You're right man! I clicked on the Suez Canal itself and it says that I can go through it and that I own it (and can decide who passes through)...BUT....let's say I select a BB with 2500km range which is based at Alexandria and that I click on the Suez Canal (which is 600km away) I got the darn message I told you about....???? Weird hey?

hmmm

In my very first game of HOI 1 a few years ago, I was Brazil and just sat around mostly in order to watch a game play out. Anyway, I built a nuke and nuked the panama canal. I was horrified to find out that it didn't close it down. Anyway, maybe the canals can be damaged now, but it sounds more likely that there is a bug.

Not really the same topic but shouldnt you be able to get your subs past gilbralter......you could in HOI and really you should be able to..IMO.
This should definitely be allowed.

Otherwise the Germans cannot really get to North Africa, and their armies there are emasculated.

But I suppose most German players ally with Franco, get him to join the war, and then take the Rock from England.

If you click on a sea zone out of the range of a fleet, then you get the message as you described. Ships aren't allowed to travel beyond their range in this game.

I guess you have the answer already in your question: The range! Ships have a limited range and cannot go further than that. Rebase them to a naval base closer to suez and check the range of your ships. I am pretty sure that should help you!

cheers,
Brentor

I have experienced the same problem Before the war I could send my ships based in Genoa to Ethiopia but when in war and after conquering the Suez I cannot send the same ships any more to Ethiopia. They just cannot pass through the Suez canal. The germans however could pass the the canal!
But then I conquered all the provinces south of Suez and waited a couple of months and then the color of the Suez canal changed and I could go through it.
Weird??????

1. It is.

2. What do you talk about. No Africa corps moved past the Gibraltar. They where sent trough Italy and that can be done in the game.

3. Or DOW a republican Spain.

I had the same problem with the Suez canal. Italy owned all of Egypt but couldn't sent any ships through it. Only subs could go through it.

After I took Gibraltar I could go through the Suez Canal with all my ships.

A little weird thing I guess. Don't dare to call it a bug ;) yet. Maybe it is meant to be this way ?

So the deal is currently that Suez and Gibraltar are like a binary linked system, and you control both? Any tips for taking Gibraltar, btw? The Germans (Axis partners of Nationalist Spain) have it surrounded, but there's like 7 mixed Allied divisions in Gibraltar.
