Dear all,

May I ask the audience in this forum the following questions:

England is not changing religion anymore after choosing the cath's again under Mary l. I thought that Elizabeth established the anglican church; but didn t see the minimal event for that. Does it mean the human player has to keep switching religion from prot to cath (or even ref) in order to annex irland and scotland (Irland in regard of that "Henry's offer")?... :(

Many thks in advance for your prompt answers

ciaoaooao

If I understand you right you want to be able to diploannex Scotland and Ireland. Regardless of what western christian religion you have you can diploannex christians after the edict of tolerance.

Or you could just go after them the "old fashioned" way. :D

:eek:o I always thought it's about a sort of "footnote";that edict. Many thks for your answers.

Now, drifting away from the original topic of this thread:

"splendide isolation"; after raging around france up towards the 1450's (at early games last week) I found myself with all scotland except Lothian and "gave" my french holdings back to france. For the next 100 years I focused in building up Engeland in order to find myself confronted with a Euope divided up between 2-3 Nations (usual suspects are France, Austria, Poland). And nobody declared war on nobody anymore. :( . Focuse on getting Ireland and Scotland and colonize and you can stop playing in 1700 because you already won the game.

However, release your french provinces as vassals try to get them into your alliance; try to bring into war Alsace and the other smaller countries. Being a bit of lucky you get France half it's normal size after it finished "AI's free lunch" by annexing its vassals. The last three games I had a Europe on the move up until 1710.

:eek:o Getting far too long this post, sorry.

Questions:

How do other people handle this "locked" european landscapes?

Why is there no events for the 30 year war, Spain coming after good old Elizabeth, Erbfolgekriege etc ( Meaning events that gives the AI a chance to unlock those "boring" huge blocks)?

Many thks for all your answers..........

Usually, I collapse their governments through cheats. Get the event numbers of the "random revolt" events from the randomevents.txt in the db\events folder, and fire it from the console.

If you are unfamiliar with this, press F12 and type
event 99001 FRA
and this will produce a revolt of roughly 1,000,000 men in a French province. Fire several of these and do the same for Poland (POL) and Austria (HAB), and Spain (SPA), Sweden (SWE), Denmark (DAN), Russia (RUS) and Brandenburg (BRA) if they're a problem too. Once the Rebels control more provinces than the government, they'll collapse and free all the states able to revolt in their area.

Why is there no events for the 30 year war, Spain coming after good old Elizabeth, Erbfolgekriege etc ( Meaning events that gives the AI a chance to unlock those "boring" huge blocks)?

As the situation in any given game is likely to be nothing like the very specific setup required for certain wars, those wars are ommited from events. The Thirty Years War wouldn't have happened if Austria and France had annexed most of the German minors.

Ouote

Too true.

Code:

Ouote

Excellent idea.

However, yesterday's game showed that if England tries to avoid and hinder the building of those huge blocks, upfront and actively, it brings a lot of spice into the game.(Guess the price will be to let it run at normal speed; yesterdays game showed that at top speed one misses too much out).

Keep relations low and ugly with spain, france and austria and be friendly with the rest of the world. And here again some questions:

What about steering DIP events by relations with other countries (also gifts etc)?

What about the following raw strategy for warfare

Only conquer territories on the islands and join every country or alliance at war with the big continentals (or even create new alliance and jump into a war)?

:eek:o are other people mainly colonizing territories with "low hostility" inhabitants or is it rather a "cleaning them up and move in"?

Many thks again for all your answers

Sorry for bad wrapped quotes

Try a WC. The game is after all not won before all provinces are yours :p . Events cause wars once in a while and you can dow countries to get their rich provinces and cots. I usually just try to get as big and wealthy as possible. If someone with a lot of cots trade embargo you you can dow them and steal all their cots. Will make 'em know who's the boss :D .

Just do whatever you think is fun really because that's what this game is about.
