If it helps, I've always advocated Brazil. Unfortunately, the beginner's guide for Brazil is now two major versions behind. Reading the guide now becomes an exercise in confusion as players attempt to compare their experiences with what the guide is telling them to do. Alas!

I took Prussia, i think it was an okay starter nation with a nice income.

Fastest way of forming Germany is to conquer it. Though there's a series of events that lead you to wars against Denmark, Austria and likely France if you want to follow the historical path in forming it.

Having the liberals take all of germany or the conservative empire event.
Though forming germany gains you loads of BB from the annexations.
Assimilation....make sure that they are happy and have one of your national cultures as dominant in that region.

Ah, then you really need to browse through OHgamer's Prussian AAR. It was designed to show off the changes in the VIP module, but along the way he does impart some generic wisdom to the masses. A must read for anyone playing Victoria.

I don't think we're aloud to talk about ethnic cleansing here. If you want them to emmigrate then make them jobless and unhappy (find out what they like and take it away)
Well, the practical ways of getting rid of the Polish Minority is not about ethnic cleansing, as there are no such option in game. (Unless you count killing rebels/fighting wars as ethnic cleansing)
If you have a full citizenship party, convert the Polish POPs into soldiers, send them to fight a impossible war...
I haven't tried this but this might work, that is, to release a 1 province unciv, remember to first build forts before you release. Now, send some exp. force to that unciv (I think about 5-8 would work) or build some divisions from that land you plan to release. Since you got a bunch of divisions of a certain culture you turned into cannon fodders, land them to fight that unciv. Well, your troops will keep dying and one day you'll be able to get rid of every undesirable cultures. Remember to retreat your cannon-fodder divisions when they are about to be annihilated, it is cheaper to reinforce divisions than to throw in new ones.
Since your foe is merely an unciv, no matter how many divisions you lose your WE would still be low.
When I was playing the US, I got a bit too many Creole POPs in the Carribean and thus hard to assimilate to desirable Yankees, I DOW Japan and send my Creole/Dixie/African Minor/South Andean/North Andean soldiers in that meat grinder. The WE forced me to make peace fast...The Japanese are tough foes in the 1910s.
As an european nation, theoretically you could assimilate the entire world (to your culture) if you use this trick. Given enough time, of course.

I assumed you meant no harm by it, i think it's in the forum rules though. Sorry i should have just sent you a message.
Smaller nations are harder to play, not easier.
Picking nations like brazil or sweden mean years of boredom and require flawless play to win.
If you want to learn the game, select a nation that has everything you need and you can control, the best nation is USA. USA only has one war that is hard to avoid (The civil war) but can go to war with mexico, and also britain if you want to try that (probaly a bad idea).
Instead of being frustrated and bored with low pops in Brazil or the swedes, the USA gets hordes of immigrants, good parties that like em and a chance to learn the game with little chance of wasting years of game play for nothing.
In fact you can almost cruise control the game if the Republicans get elected, the Caps will build everything for you while you learn how to make them happy and productive.
