What do they do for me? I have 20ish people in my court, and i am not sure how to use them. Also, should i be giving them titles? When I do, i get a message that they leave me court, along with their families. And what are courtiers? :SSS

They are just people that live at your court and can hold positions on the council or marry them to your vassals, you might get an event to sleep with one of them it all just depends.

Think of your court like being your palace. People who like you or want to get you to like them live there, and of course so do their children. These people are your courtiers. As you are their ruler, you have control over what they do--you can marry them off to other people, for example, and someone will require your permission to marry one of them.

They are basically your entourage that exist try and attempt to make peacetime less boring, this may also include family members lacking land of their own. Things like affairs can happen with lustful characters or hedonists, also it might be worthwhile to keep at least a lukewarm opinion with them; courtiers who hate their liege make for good assassins

A miserable little pile of secrets.

But enough talk, go appoint some of them as councillors / use them to educate kids / get them to join your plot to assassinate another courtier / use them to woo foreign brides to your court / marry them off to anyone else / make some babies and start a eugenics program / become the stepping stones to taking over the world!

Your court consists of all your direct vassals, The people you draw to your court through invitation or marriages, your children (or siblings/uncles/etc) who are not married off into another court or given land of their own. If they are given land, they may still be in your court if they remain a direct vassal. Generally, I try to get rid of any 'unhappy' courtiers right away unless they have worthy skills. Anyone with an oppinion of under 50 I get rid of so I don't need to worry about being killed. I will lure in as much as possible characters with high martial skill just because it's always good to have 5 or 6 men with high martial skill to lead your personal levies, and you might not want to risk having vassals lead your troops because of troubles that might result if they die. I also try to get at least 1 20+ stat person in each category so I have quality people in my council. I will typically try to mary all males in my court with genius or sharp females so they can produce genius or sharp offspring who will be raised to have the correct skills and culture. These will then be wed into my dynasty and some may be given minor holdings which keeps them as my direct vassals. In this way, I always have a few good marriage choices for my hiers on hand.

This is a court:

I think nobody in this thread has mentioned yet that you can invite claimants to other kingdoms/duchies/counties/empires to your court, and then press their claims - or better yet, you can marry them matrilineally to one of your sisters or crazy cat-lady aunts, and the resulting heir would inherit the claim (probably - check this first!), and belong to your dynasty. Courtiers can't refuse marriage with anyone else in your court, which is handy to remember.

A miserable little pile of secrets.
Perhaps the same could be said of all Spymasters.
