What Influences War Entry

Hi everybody.

I consider myself to be an experienced player of HoI, and I have learnt a lot of the internal mechanics of this great game but an issue is still a mistery for me.

Apart from events which change from MOD to MOD, which things inlfluence war entry? And how much do they influence it.

I know WE raises in peace time at rate of 1 point per month,and that DOWs and Anexations have an influence on it but I can't find out how much or if there is anything else that affects WE. Besides I'm not even sure what I said last is true :rofl: .

I cannot give you exact figures but:

Warentry is raised by:

- Dowing and annexing countries (this is true for Germany/Italy/Japan, I don't know if it holds true for other paternal autocrat countries also, however DOWs of communist countries reduce WE). IIRC there is a difference raise in WE if you DOW democracies (higher) or paternal autocrats (lower). When you DOW Italy as Germany WE is increased well over 100.

- war progress (occupation of some VP provinces - valid for the US)

- demanding territory

- couping a nation (IIRC)

- events

Thank you Mediator, I didn't know taking certain provinces increased WE, that explains USA going from 80 (or so) to 100 in a month after I took all the major cities + Baku in URSS.

Anybody knows the amounts in which WE is changed?

if we are talking about VP's its 1 WE for every 5 VPS

WE also goes up by a sum every month - like the USA get 1.5 WE every month.

Thanks Fiendix, certainlythe 125 VP of Moscow, Stalingrad, Baku and Lenningrad are a great push to the USA towards the war (25 WE).

As I understand things stand as follow for now:

Changes in WE:

Monthly change: +1 point per month, except USA that gets 1.5
Claiming Territories: +x
DOWs:
Germany to Italy +100
Any to Autocrat: +x
Any to Democracy: +xx
Comunist to any: -x
Taking VPs: +1 per 5 VPs (only valid for USA)
Couping Gobernment: +x

Questions:
Taking VPs: Is this only valid for germany taking VPs? or also for any other country. If one country takes a VP province and later loses it does USA's WE lower?
Couping and demanding territories: Is this valid when those options are successfull or just trying them is enough?

The quickest way to find answers to your questions is to start a '36 game as Germany and try the options:

Demand land from France (me thinks it is 5 WE) and crosscheck with demanding land from Luxembourg.

DOW Hungary and cross check with DOWing Brazil.

DOW Denmark and cross check with DOWing Rep. Spain.

DOW Italy and have a look in the save file (since it is 100+ WE). To look in the save file, open it with Text editor and search for "warentry". The first you will find is UK and the second is France.

Plz. note that the effect is different for different countries (I think sphere of influence has also something to do with it and mybe if you border the DOWing country and US WE raises much slower due to DOWs than the one of France and UK).

Coup Turkey and cross check with couping Chile (give yourself via F12 key and "DI" enough diplomats to accomplish this).

Etc.

US WE tends to hit 100 WE the moment Barbarossa is launched in 1941 (sometimes 1940), so these VPs hardly matter anymore. A bit too early, as imho it should hit 100 end of 1941.

Nevertheless the US WE process is bugged - for example, Jap aggression on India sometimes makes the WE go down (that happens when Jap is in the Axis alliance already I believe).
