So i know a lot of people are going to say Hegemony federations already do that but even in a hegemony other members have some political power. (I had a case where one of them kept spamming invite a certain empire to the federation and i had to constantly refuse) What i am talking about is one where your empire rules supreme and the others are clearly "beneath" you not your equals.

What i had in mind was something like this:

Once you have a vassal you can decide to form an "imperium" (i know the name is already used but i couldnt find anything else but it gets the point across), once you do that you cannot join a federation anymore as you are the opposite of a federation and having both imperium and federation would overpowered. Once that is done you would have a new meny like the federation one and you would be stuck in the supremacist stance or the belligerent one.

In said new menu you would essentially have the benefits and the obligations your vassals have. You can go full benevolent and give a lot to your vassals ensuring their loyalty towards you or you can go full tyrant and demand a lot while giving little ensuring you some nice bonuses but guaranteeing they will betray you as soon as they can and outside powers will support their independence a lot more. (More likely if their ethics math the scenario like egalitarian etc.). Like you decide how tight and oppressive your grip is on them.(Of course you can be a benevolent overlord that protects the lesser empires from themselves and the rest of the galaxy. You could allow fighting between vassals either freely or if you permit it etc.

It would basically be a balancing act for benefits and negatives for your vassals. Your "imperium" can level up but unlike a federation time and envoys would not be the only thing that would be necessary (having just one vassal and being able to level up passively would be a bit too easy) havent thought exactly all the possible necessities but i feel like the "best" option would be how much of the galaxy your imperium covers. I know that would be a '"heavy" restriction on this playstyle but considering domination is the goal i feel like there needs to be some brakes. The percentages would still be up for debate but i would say like around 50% of the galaxy would be the maximum threshold to get to the last level since if you own more than half the galaxy by that point you have pretty much won. Of course your imperium getting bigger would add more threat than normal encouraging the formation of federations to counter you maybe even a single federation.

Leveling up would give you more bonuses and allow more demands and benefits to give (like maybe forcing your vassals to overtime turn to your ethics stuff like that), maybe increase the trust and hate cap values.

Depending on your give vs take your vassals will gain trust/love or hate (it would be the same "value" but it would either be positive or negative.

Im proposing this kind thing mostly because i dont like conquering the entire galaxy and having to manage it all and sadly the ai as a vassal is way too weak and almost everyone goes tributary but they dont fight for you etc. Make the feudal society civic kind of useless as no matter how powerful they get and apart from fighting they give you nothing else you cant demand rescources or anything from them. I do really hope paradox makes vassals actually worth it and more interesting because right now it honestly feels like cooperation is way stronger than indirect domatiion, yes there is the galactic imperium but honestly you really dont do much, you cant make any sort of demands at the expense of others etc yet the galactic community is basically like a giant federation.

What do you guys think. Its not a good versus evil more cooperation vs supremacy kind of thing.

As i said in a way yes but they still have political power in the federation and can spam demands to invite someone to the hegemony which really doesnt make sense. Also apart from focusing its buffs towards you almost exclusively the other members are not really put at a disadvantage or obligations, you don't get any income or tribute from them and apart from having to fight you if they want to leave they are basically free to do as they wish.

Vassalize them before you invite them to the federation. :)
True but i still think it would fun, i mean the awakened empires each have unique vassals with obligations and restrictions i really want vassals to be more interesting and viable as we are stuck with 2 choices right now and one thing that annoyed me is:

A) Even as the leader of a hegemony you are still somewhat forced into being a "good guy" your other federation members dont really lose anything, they dont have to give you part of their research, or stuff like that. I definitely wish i could build gates myself inside my vassals territory as they are incapable of handling it. I dont want to play a somewhat good guy i want to play full tyrant of the galaxy demand excessive stuff from my vassals, even as the galactic emperor you are forced to benefit everyone else, most reforms benefit everyone or mostly you, there is nothing "bad" or "oppressive" you can do you are forced into being a decent ruler. Hell custodian is actually stronger than emperor since custodian has all the same important resolutions, can attack anyone and can still have the benefits of a federation the emperor doesnt have that.

B) Trying to vassalize everyone simply isnt a viable option as the ai is horrendous as a vassal and its always bothered me how the description says they give up freedoms and such but honestly apart from one or 2 things they dont give up all that much.

C) How vassalization is basically exchanging a quick death for a slow one, there is not real incentive to keeping vassals around and tributaries are nothing but rescource banks. I really want to rule everyone and the galaxy without having to conquer the entire galaxy mysself. Even if i make everyone a vassal i can really interact with them in any way.

D) I am also annoyed as emperor you are forced to give up the benefits of a federation and dont really get anything in return so i thought why not have something like a federation but that can be kept once emperor.

Wow thank you for informing me about this one definitely will have a look at it. Probably is still ended if you become galactic emperor but this is defintely the kind of stuff i am looking for, probably cant make people pay due to coding but its a step in the right direction. Definitely hope paradox takes some inspiration from this, i like role playing as a psionic supremascist empire that wants to bring about their rule to the whole galaxy but the current galactic imperium really doesnt allow that as you are basically blocked off from all the other members.

Like sure i can either vassalize everyone or go galactic imperium but i dont feel like a galactic emperor and it might be acknowedged by the game in terms of text and so on but in terms of mechanics and what i can do not so much.

I read so much sci fi with evil galactic emperors but i sadly cannot do that in stellaris despite it allowing many different kinds of playstyles. Like becoming the crisis as unfinished and in need of more work it is is a good example, before i could go genocidal and i was never acknowledge as a crisis level threat no matter what. But with the perk i can be the crisis, i am acknowledged as such by the game and the mechanics and new stuff i get reflect that play style properly.
