This sounds like a wonderful, economically sound suggestion.

(I kid of course Paradox, I get a certain masochistic joy from purchasing all your expansions)

It would be the last expansion.

It could be a nice add when you guys decide on a smaller DLC that everybody that has bought all DLC's get's it for free, others can get it for 5 bucks or something :p But of course that's on Paradox to decide, there is allready a lot of free stuff, but I guess this is a question to make free stuff for DLC buying people only and everybody that doesn't buy them has to pay xD I'm also fine with just giving the free stuff to everybody :p

[edit] and then I'm thinking more like a free unit / music / flavor pack thingy.

[edit2] from a business standpoint, if you announce such thing it could be that a lot of people that are missing just 1 or 2 DLC's are tempted to buy those so they get the other for free (6)

Would you like to work for 4 months for free?
That is exactly what I'm doing right now........... Internship sucks :p although the internship itself is very nice... but the working for free sucks... specialy when you already have 8 years of experience in the field and have as much knowledge as most full time workers in the company... who all get paid to do the exact same thing you are doing.......

We have many expansions in EU4 (I bought them all) and it would be a nice surprise if this one would be free :) .
What do you say Paradox ?

If you don't want the expansion, don't buy it. If you can't buy it on release, wait for it to go on sale. Either way the base game and whatever DLC you have will still work fine.

To be fair this does highlight the issue of releasing a load of free content in a way which doesn't look like content again.

You mean like the Women in History free pack?

You mean the last expansion would be free or the upcoming expansion would be the last expansion :(?
I understood it to mean that doing it would be so non-viable economically that they wouldn't have the money to make more expansions.

Ow yes, there allready was a free pack :p

I don't care about it anyways, I'm just giving ideas that essentially would mean taking stuff you meant to be free, make a DLC out of it, then give that for free to DLC owning people only xD which is a stupid tactic anyways. But yeah a small unit / music / flavor pack where you might not even ask 5 bucks for could be given out free to people that own all DLC's, just to get more people to buy your more expensive DLC's if they're missing one. I believe that tactic is actually being used by some companies, but of course lot's of people would complain about such practices :p

Perhaps not give it for free, but at least at a discount (just once) on release for those who actually have poured money into your work many times ;-) then it would only be 1 or ½ months free, compared to how many have bought all your DLC, even cosmetic, and have used spare time or might even took time off work on release to support your products, then it wouldn´t be that bad a move ;-)

I do agree that you should support your current fanbase along with encouraging new ones :)

You say "poured money into" as if we didn't get anything of equal/more value out of our purchase. Without even mentioning all the free content that is given in the patches, the developers don't owe us a discount at all.

If you want a discount, wait for the inevitable sale on Steam.

These talks of "Developer should give free stuff or lower the cost to gain consumer confidence" are silly. They build confidence by making quality content that we want to buy.

Not the only one who thinks so :) recent studies showed that loyal fanbase is more important to the net-profits of companies... Besides I´m not saying it should be all the time, but just let them show a bit of love to those loyalists who have supported them for years... The steam sales are really less relevant for many loyal fanboys, who buy the game/DLC on release both to support them but also to play the game. It´s those I´m talking about, think there would be just a little love for those since they have poured much money into PDX and would likely still do. But nevertheless I´d like to think that PDX are less of a moneygrubber than EA :)

I have a better idea. Since offering a free expansion isn't viable, how they Paradox make a free expansion, then they say offer a bonus feature exlusively for the people that want to pay. That way everyone gets free content, and Paradox can stay in business?
