People have put a lot of great suggestions on here but all I REALLY want is a 'dismiss' button on my generals. I know there is the custom event to retire the old guard, but I like some of those old guys you know? Especially the Logistics Wizards guys. Sometimes I want to dismiss someone because I just don't like them being in my heriarchy (I'm looking at you Himmler). Alternety maybe a "Demote" button?

You have my vote as well.
Assuming you mean having a particular General removed from the list, perhaps they could simply be switched to a "retired" list, which you could then go to and bring them out of retirement, if you wish, when the need is dire.
Numerous examples of this process come to mind, esp. in the Wehrmacht and Red Army.

Yeah good idea. Useless but I really would like to see it in the game for roleplaying issues.
I don't agree that its a useless feature. Alot of events in HoI2 force retired generals and leaders to "Be granted a state funeral" when they are removed from active duty. I think we can agree this is bad, and the suggestion in combination with battlecrys addition would fix it.

This I would love. God knows how many times I've sat there right before the war starts going through all the generals, searching for "Panzer Leaders", or "Defensive Doctrine" (or whatever) guys one by one. It'd be nice to streamline this somewhat.

Agreed.

But, whats everyones issue with 'oldguards'? Sure, they are crappy (Whats the statistic downfall of using one?) but, I mean, when selecting a general, just go to the top of the list, I mean, why does everyone like getting rid of them via even in the begining?

Hey, I love the Old Guard. They command my defensive lines, HQs, etc. The better ones get actual troops to command, sometimes.

Agreed. I never once tried to get rid of the old guard. They're invaluable for reserve and/or defensive armies. The good non-old guard generals quickly get used up for offensive front-line type armies etc. I'd much rather have a 2-skill field-marshal who gains experience slower than a 0-skill one who gains it faster. The battles that might be lost early on before that 0-skill guy gets to skill-2 could very well be decisive.

When talking about Generals I think it would be cool to se some more negative or dual (both negative and positive) traits too, compared to Victoria.

Examples could be:

¤ Hell bent: +10% speed, +10% org lost when moving.
¤ Defensive: -20% speed, +20% max dug in value.

Sea:
¤ Reckless: -20% positioning, -20% detection chance.

Why get rid of old guard?

Well, MY reason for wanting to get rid of some of them is mainly to make room for some decent guys to get auto-promoted....I mean we all use General Heye from Germany as a crack frontline officer, and have Guderian garrisoning Lille or something right? While I am wishing I would like to see some more traits for naval and air leaders as well. No reason a air or naval leader could not be a logistics wizard, or perhaps a trait for naval/air that regains org faster or something

It is a controversial subject but I would still like to see an trait for supression. There were several generals in the war who were very skilled at either lowering dissent or making the most of an occupation force.

A trait like "organized" could cover this quite well. Usually the officers who are best at managing territory are the guys who sharpen their pencils to the same length - i.e. those organized to the point of obsession.

wow... i came in here thinking there would be a form of wishlist and found a whole lot of great ideas instead.

i like the Op's idea as well as battlecry's ideas and also alex's
being able to search through generals by trait would save a lot of time per game.

having the logistics wizard for air as well as sea commanders also makes sense.

double edged traits are a bit less no brainer, but i think it would add additional strategic importance to commander decisions, should my tank commander be a panzer leader to do better in battle
or should i make him impetous(sp?) for that 25% faster movement (so he can blitz better) while having 25% lower defensive values(from not ever stopping to consolodate his gains)

the current system there isn't any strategy behind the choice of commanders... tanks get panzer leaders, para/marines/mountaineers get commando leaders.

there is always 1 clear advantagous choice for offensive generals depending on what they command.

these traits would give offensive troops the same strategic choices that garrison troops kinda halfway have.

logistic general or defensive general or specialty general (you rarely get a logistics with defensive and commando for example)

anyway yeah sorry for the long post, i got carried away with the thought. good ideas from everyone, keep it up please.
