What I`ve learned

*Its not the Chinese front what will give you headaches, its Korea. Its easily reinforced by the Japs and its proximity to Dalian creates a very awkward front near home

*Vassalize the Warlords, not question asked.

*There is a way to avoid War with China: Do not raise the autonomy above Imperial Subject. That way , once you declare independence you wwont need to wrorry about the CHinese United Front

*Do not Understimate Mengkukuo.

*The White peace event is slightly harmful towards Manchukuo as it will make you loose all your gains in China. If you are lucky you will snactch Mengkukuo and East hebei, but its not sure.

*Joining the Chinese United front is a mixed bag- Ythey are incredibly elpful when it comes to finishing off the Japanese(specially in Korea) but any land you grab will go to CHina proper. Discretion at the time of deciding which will be the level of your cooperaion will be key for the later parts of the Civil War

*Sign the Anti-Comintern Pact. Germany is you only friend in this

*Smaller Divions that you can field quickly and preferable over large and complex ones.

*Be careful about when to transition towards more advanced equipement.

*Timing is crucial. Declare Indepedence too early and you will have little in means of defending against Japan. Do it too Late and China will be too alrge to take on

How come you still didn't annex Japan to get the other achievement?

Well , to be honest, I derped during the Peace Conference, I was afraid Allies would try to create a democratic Japan so I puppeted them. Now I have a small army of minions in the form of the states of former Indochina, Korea and Japan. Also, I liked the Idea a vassalizing Chinese Empire

Don't you have to fight the Allies as well to get Guangzhouwan and Hong Kong? You also gotta take Macau from Paraguay as well.

The white peace was bugged for me. The Nationalists and the Warlords were already defeated and Japan did their thing in the peace conference, and almost immediately their "surrender" popped. I didn't plan on keeping that because I just wanted to see how much land it gave me, but it did some really wonky things like cancel all the Japanese puppets (they puppeted Sinkiang, Reorganized, and Communist China), and gave them no leaders (I also lost Puyi). As soon as I unpaused it CTD. Was going to upload the save for bug report but the save corrupted the second time I tried to load it.

Port Arthur and Korea aren't that hard to deal with as long as you plan to take them right away. I put two regular infantry on Port Arthur and a mixed-Calvary/infantry army on Korea. Japan had one garrison unit in Port Arthur and a couple in Korea. Dalian reinforced but never broke out and eventually they pulled away units, and Korea fell past enough that I was down to Pusan before they could counterattack effectively.

Agree, timing on the war is really important, but I was more worried about Japan conquering China before I had a chance to win. I did it in mid-1939. Enough time that the Japanese were away from the border so I could rapidly move in, but not enough that they had almost beaten China. Too early and they're liable to just turn towards you and your horrible units. Too late and China will fall soon. I enjoyed the three way war.

Hm I see a much easier way to win as Manchukuo. My bet would be to declare independence and backstab Japan so he loses Korea and East Hebei. Then once Japan is out of the picture attack Chinas 1 by 1 or join Germany in defeating the Soviet Union. Even if you remain at war with Japan in a limbo state it doesn't matter because you can just guard your ports (once the AI is off the mainland, it's basically impossible for them to successfully come back). At that point you can attack Soviets or you can attack China. I wouldn't join the United Front so that you can leave and attack them but if you manage to become a dominion you should get enough war score to own a good bit of China.

Well thats another thign I learned: There seems to be an issue in the way the Shared Part of the Focus Tree is structured and the Political Nature of Manchukuo: You cannot take Renounce the Inequal Treaties nor One China Policy, the latter being the most Harmful of them all , because it will make the process of integrating the Warlords longer and more painful. Until then you are not operating at peak capacity, at least not in war where you can realistically defeat the Allies, specially with the US on board.

Did you have to actually own (not just occupy) Guangzhouwan, Macau and Hong Kong to get that achievement? For me I wasn't able to get them when I just occupied them, which made me think that I needed to conquer Britain and win the land in the peace treaty to get it.

Nope, th "Claim the Mandate of Heaven" actually let you ignore Macau, Guangzhouwan, Hong Kong and all "non core territory" (You dont need neither Tibet nor Arunachal pradesh)

Thank you, I thought you needed to get all land including Guangzhouwan Macau and Hong Kong. I guess I'll do another run since I got myself involved in a war with the Allies under the assumption that I had to get those lands lol. Qing troops fought valiantly with sticks and harsh language but wasn't really working when Daddy Murica was landing 200 divisions on me the entire time.
