2. No attacking without a CB (Although rarely out of frustration I do... or mainly it's for the stability drop and I white peace out of it)

5. No inflation, as I find once I bankrupt a nation like Austria or France it's no fun anymore...
6. No scortched earth. It's messy, cruel, and unusual for 6000 Naples troops to destroy 10000 French or Austrians completely while I have barely any casualties.
7. Build... everything. Just for the sake of building. When you have a large empire build, build, build.
8. Stay below the 1000 ducat line, except for missions.
9. Give war subsidies to Ming and Japan so that they don't shatter...

Stay under BB limit (probably moot with the latest patch =)
No "Gamey Exploits" (ie, bring ships out of port, make enemy fleet come, put ships in port, enemy fleet leaves, pull ships out and repeat)
No "Gamey Tactics" (ie, France getting military access to Scotland and stacking all troops there prior to declaring war on England ... have to declare war and ship troops over in hostile landings)

One I stick to is no starting wars that will include a country as an enemy while I have troops inside that country.

About the BB limit - I've tried staying under but I missed out by 2.4 points LOL.

I'm thinking of a 'play tribal stay tribal' rule... (Although I'm playing one of the more obscure mods now the last time I played Vanilla IN3.2 final I was playing with negative BB limits :))

Yeah, I've never seen them not die...:eek: It always annoyed me because I usually wouldn't pay attention and would leave a few ships sitting somewhere too long.

Made a suggestion in another thread, that ships (both ai & human) should automatically retreat to base when they go beyond a certain attrition level, set in defines. IMO this would solve several problems. And the retreat part has already been included for the loser of a battle.

Most of the things on this thread aren't really houserules, but strategical principles people adhere to because they are advantageous. It's only a houserule if you give up doing something that would be advantageous to you.

What do you call "no beaming leaders", or "no quit & reload"? Those are things which limit you, aren't they. And there are many more.

In MP: None. None. You would get killed if you did.

In SP: I generally try to RP a bit with what I would do in a RL situation like that. I also like to develop relationships with the other countries around me. Other than that, I don't really have any strict house rules other than no cheats (except for an occasional "diplomat" cheat because I hate the diplomat limits the game gives).
