just wondering because I play on v.hard / furious and at "hard" stony road level.... I have gotten to the point where I am thinking I need to cut it down a notch to make the game more enjoyable. I am having trouble with massive concetrations of troops that take forever to starve/bomb/assault out. Also I think the computer cheats (or maybe this is a stony road thing) with the effective percentage when Im attacking (rarely do I get over 70% even when encircling, and attacking in summer/prime conditions)

My stunning blitzkreig has slowed to a snailkreig..... and the game is becoming more of a waiting game. Well at least I can still crush poland with out to much trouble....

Can anyone suggest a level that elliminates the impervious trenchwar syndrome that france and the allies suffer from?

I play :

1. very hard
2. aggressive
3. UGroFAZ (... because I am a God)

Basically as Germany you will need to think of new ways to overcome your problems. Going head to head with a large amount of entrenched forces will lead to defeat.

1. Poland = still can be done
2. Denmark, Sweden, Norway = all doable
3. Yugo / Greece = get military access, infiltrate the country, cancel military access, declare war, bingo
4. France, get military access from Spain early on, transport troops from Yugo to Spain (have ships fresh in your pool for this), invade from Spain into soft French underbelly

...

...

5. USSR ... errr ... well ... errr ... let me get back to you on that one ...

Hey Greece would have never given military access, not even the Spanish who were fascist aligned! If you like to play like God play it as God with no exploits. Anyway this exploits you mentioned should be easily reapaired by events.:)

If you play at the UGroFaz level you need all the help you can get.

Also the reason why the Greeks gave military access is because the Italians had been busy expending DI on them. For once my Ally was of some use to me.

Sorry I did not made my self clear,
in HOI for sure you will be able to achieve what you say. I am talking about real history. In real history with all the DI you can imagine the Germans tried to convince Franco for the taking of Gibraltar tottaly unsuccesfully (the most the axis got was the blue division). And this was after the fall of France, you can imagine their position before it. Greece was english aligned so no way would have given access, I mean in real history. Believe me is really feasible to get France-Greece-Soviets without this unusual exploit. If you like challenge you will like to find the way. :)

Well considering the restraints put on you by grofaz (stony road in general).... the only way to conquer france is to do it ahistorically. Going through the benelux area is pretty much out of the question (which is in fact the only "historical" way to do it). And anything else by default is "ahistorical"

Its kind of stupid to confine yourself to the route of history when said route has been reinforced with massive amounts of entrenched infanrty (ahistorical amounts).

So dont knock the guy for going through spain and adapting to the situation. After all who is to say that if netherlands had a maginot line and a huge modern army that Hitlers generals might have applied diplomatic pressure to Franco for an unorthodox flanking manuvere?

"Going through the benelux area is pretty much out of the question "

Really? Sure, it's hard and the path to victory is not always fast and clean, but it's possible (I've done it and I have seen AAR's do it). To me, SR provides a challenge in how to get things done, not how to go around problems. The solutions mentioned are creative but only possible because of game mechanics.

When I started to play HOI, I had to adapt my game as I learned. Maybe you should build armies sooner (to have more at wartime). Perhaps you need the right balance of aircraft and armies. Change leaders, attack directs, etc. One big lesson for me was timing - delays in blitzkreig really do give the opponent time to react. rry the level below very hard, but I think the biggest help would come from fine tuning the war machine.

Just have my first stony road game at Ugrofaz levl, v.h/agressive running. Beside the mad allies also SU and USA declared war to me very very early... (jan 1940) and this to the same time
Maybe as a result as i denied to share poland
As France denied getting Vichyied i have to go for annexation :( ....dispersing my armies. Meanwhile the atlantic wall is secured and i only need Dakar for annexing France.
I never tried to defend against the SU on the front but set up a defence line arround Warsaw.....so far my men hold out there.

The Allies manged to do some serious landings in italy with 30 divisions each   .....and i had no other choice but to use all my troops which were engaged against France to help out my italian friends and could not strenghen the eastern front.
Perfect Teamwork with my ally lead to encirlement and anhilation 60 US and english divsions. :p

After developping the Panther i went straight to the heavy stuff.... Tiger II etc.... ....it´s now Nov 1940 and in one month i m ready to order them in my factories.
I think in Summer 1941 i will have to crush either the soviets or the english otherwise they will all roll over me.
Whoops this message is getting long.....i should better write an AAR then :) :)
Cheers Dragonheart

For me the easiest and simplest way to defeat France is by breakthrough via the benelux area as it was in history. Not always exactly through sedan though, but always finishing begining-midd 1940, and even with Dunkerke included. This is done in SRW 0520 all difficulties at hardest with added 48 infantry divisions to the French (all with eng. brigades) and extra 60 torpedo bomber divisions to the English for power balance (which makes sea transport a bit complex). So I believe that there should be technical faults at both tactical and strategic level if it can not be done. Until this can be optimised I suggest decreasing the difficulty level. That is why difficulty levels are created. But then if you enjoy the game using exploits; that alone is reason enough to continue to use them, as the aim of the game is to have fun.

The only real problem (in Ugrofaz) are Ruskies, always had more divisions and tech than you (Panzer III or IV against JS-II) i have to admit, i coudnt defeat ruskies in Ugrofaz, i conquered poland and french without any problem but ruskies......they didnt defeat me but i cant defeat them (only few small victory´s in Baltic States and East Poland).

Note: Defeat Ruskies fast is the key, if you cant do it you will lose the war.

Hm... "finished" my first SR game yesterday (beginner level), had crushed Russia in September 1944, war with them starting a year earlier. Unfortunatly the game crashed after defeating them (i believe problems with the New Order events). Conquering France was hard, taking about 3 years (didn´t accept Vichy), and they till had Grenoble and Toulon..

Now I will try SR on very hard / agressive and Give it to me hard... I hope I´ll be able to knock out France earlier and will take Vichy when offered...

UGroFaz is there to challenge, not to give a historical re-run of what really happened.

The fun with UGroFaz is to find new ways around your problems.

At least that is the what it does for me, and I am quite content. :)
