What happens to your nation's national ideas when you unify into a new country?

For example, if you form Russia with Novgorod, would you keep the Novgorod idea track or would it be replaced with the Russian set? Would a Germany formed by Brandenburg keep the Prussian ideas, and a Germany formed by Bavaria keep the Bavarian ideas?

It all depends on what country it is - Some nations keep their old ideas, others have theirs replaced. Great Britain keeps whatever ones that the nation that formed it had.

The Form Italy decision for Venice says that it will change your national traditions and ambition, which makes it sound like you'll keep the rest of your national ideas. I don't know for sure; I never formed it.

I would expect the ideas to merge...Otherwise, all nations should be treated equally. If Britain, retains them, so should Spain or Italy....
