It’s horribly messed up right now. Troops not going where they are supposed to, rebel suppression doesn’t work at all...when is it going to be fixed? I still remember the days when we had to do port defense manually...the horror, the nightmare...they never stopped! Please! No!! I don’t want to go back to manually assign coastal guards!! Help!

Tried garrisoning the chinese coast. UI asked me for like 50 divisions, so I gave it 50 divisions. It puts 3-4 groups of 5 divs per province to the very west of Guanxi clique where there are no ports, so it doesn't actually have enough to cover the coastal provinces even if it has enough divisions for the provinces.

Ended up just doing manual fallback lines, as is tradition.

Had this problem as Qing. Tried to garrison captured Japanese Pacific islands (wanted 2-3 units per Island because I didn’t have time to build up forts yet to stop the allies) but even with 56 garrison divisions, the AI would place like 10 divisions in Iwo Jima and another 10 in the island to the east (forget its name for some reason). The victory point islands got two but everyone else only got one. Don’t understand why the AI put troops on an island to get wickedly out of supply when there was plenty of room elsewhere. Tried to split them up and use single area garrisons and the AI did the same thing except each area had one island with 10 or so troops and the rest with only one.

Then when I tried to garrison Tibet and Burma for suppression purposes the troops wouldn’t move, not even to victory points.

What's the problem with doing it manually again? It keeps you from having them take pleasure cruises by enemy navies and getting sunk, too.

Thats simple, if you use the garrison AI you can put 72 Divisions under one general, if you do it manually you can only put 24 Divs under one general. Or you ignore the limit and recieve no bonuses from the general.

As Japan I set up a garrison order to just protect ports. Despite this I did select a state with no port. When the PRC and co took 2 provinces on the border of the state a steady stream of my garrison divisions headed over and attacked the invaders.

I'll try it again at some point or see if I have an auto save (or whether I'm just going mad).

Garrison didn't work last patch either, it's worse now though.

When you set garrison to only rebel suppression, set a small area, get an accurate troop count of troops needed to suppress the area...and come back a year later to discover damaged factories and unrest, that is an objectively not-functioning mechanic. Especially because the UI-displayed count is accurate; manually positioning the troops allows that count to trivially suppress the unrest, without needing to move them.

Apparently it's WAS to penalize people for not relying on the broken battle planner now. How long until broken garrison is required to avoid penalty?

I just made some tests on 1.5.1, they seem to be mostly working. I have seen a couple problems (mostly caused when you assign way more units than needed), but nothing extremely critical. I will test them more tomorrow and make more fixes.

If you encountering more problems in beta branch, please attach a save game or give me steps to reproduce it. Maybe I am missed some specific cases

I noticed that when Japan landed and cut of one of my ports playing as China, then the order tried to send other divisions by sea to the encircled port ( there were no land route ), despite a 99% chance to get sunk. This was in the beta branch yesterday I think.
