Its been a while since I played Eu4,like 2 months or so,and I've heard that the combat got changed a bit.
Im interested how stackwipes are supposed to work, becouse the combat system doesen't seem to allow anything except 10:1 "outnumbered" stackwipes.
I know how the mechanis is supposed to work:
1.Army needs to be outnumbered 2:1
2.Avarage morale of the army needs to be very low (defenetly under 0.5)
3.The first 2 shock and fire phases haven't passed yet
If all are met the enemy army is destroyed and half the manpower it had is returned to the enemy pool.
But as I demonstrate in the video I provided, this doesen't seem possible,as unless 12 days have passed a regiment can't retreat. This in turn means that even if a regiment's morale reaches 0 it will stay in combat and absorb hits. This remains true even in the extreme case when the regiment reaches 0 manpower after it reached 0 morale,it still remains and shields the cannons behind it from harm while there are literally no men in it. Therefore those cannons will keep their morale and let stacks get away from a potential stackwipe. This means that adding only a single cannon regiment to an army can often compleatly shield it from getting stackwiped. This can result in an army surviveing a fight while seriously outnumbered just becouse their cannons kept their morale high enough.
I provided a video demonstrating what Im talking about, whit setup and all.
Do note that the quality and unit types on both sides are the same, but 1 army is still very outnumbered, and yet still no stackwipe, unless the stacks are pure inf/cav
Is this mechanic working as intended?
And if so how does this make sense?
