Greetings

I'm new to the board and when I looked through the posts here I cound't find one who treated the subject of playability of the factions and thought we needed one.

Personally I like to start small... real small. Preferably with just being a count and more so and independent one.

My personally favourite is Lubeck with start in 1066. A small indepedent county - between Denmark to north, the mighty Germany to the south and aggressive pagan tribes to the east.
First off it seems almost impossible but one can actually do quite well.

To do this I usually pledge alligence and break them again and shift etc... and attack pagan land to the east - until finally I might be able to become my own master.

In my current game (Hard/Aggressive) I managed to become Duke of Prussia and own 9 pieces of land before I in 1126 broke free from my allegience to Polen and are now independent and intend to be so for the rest of that game. Had a lot of irritating events around the creation of the Teutonic Order that wanted to seize my land but thats another story.

Would like to hear your suggestion on a challeging yet - not impossible faction to play?

cheers

In CK, nothing is impossible. It's much easier (but more fun!) to start as a small count in CK than a one province minor in EU3 or HOI2, so don't fear. I have started as a suspected ancestor of mine many times, the Count of Cornwall and done fairly well with him despite it being a poor county.

The key is of course marriages for small, poor counties as you won't be able to field enough troops to conquer anybody or feasibly make your province wealthy enough in enough time. Because of this, subterfuge is your friend.

Because of this, I advise the count of Cornwall (in Vanilla at least), Robert de Conteville. Become the Habsburgs of England and marry your way to a load of titles and maybe even the Kingdom itself, it's very possible.

Another fun suggestion is to grant a title to Edgar the Aetheling or any of the sons of Harold Godwinson and try to reclaim the throne of England.

Try Corsica. You're an island, you're independent and you start with a claim on a province in Sardinia. You're not very rich at first, but you have loads of options.

Quoted for truth! I've had some of my best games as Corsica. I became a meditereanean empire. (A small empire, but still an empire in my honest opinion)

Any of the Dutch provinces can be fun.

Nubia can be fun too, for your King title means squat. There are counts more powerful than the King of Nubia. ;)
