We will have Nepal, Tibet, Tannu-what and Butan focus trees before a Spanish one.
Too many years playing these games.

You forget Andorra, most powerful nation during the 30's-40's timelapseWhile I agree that these are the most important countries that are currently represented in the game, I think we need first the really important nations added:
Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino and the Vatican.
Joking aside, I am overjoyed that fuel is added and that the naval system is reworked.
After this, I hope that the Soviet Union will be the next DLC.
I love HoI4 to death (and dishonour) with 1700+ hours on my Steam record, but I seriously hope that MtG will be the last DLC/expansion.

HoI4 does have some severe limitations when it comes to engine and the clumsy UI.
Those can't be fixed entirely with patches and expansions and I feel like it's time to bury that one and focus on HoI5.
Let's face it: Stellaris (which I own and don't love) is lightyears ahead of HoI4 when it comes down to game design.
Your idea for the game does sound cool.At this point, I sorta kinda agree :[
Not that I think HoI4 can't be improved but I just really feel like the foundation for the game was flawed from the very start. That being the devs not knowing whether to make the game more of a macro big picture game, or a tactical micro grand strategy game. And not to mention how HoI4 in mid development went from historical to sandbox alt history, or the incredibly frustrating Battle Planner which actively fights against you.
In every playthrough I try giving Hoi4, it always starts out somewhat promising. The build up to war, making the big political decisions, events and so on. But once the war finally comes around, a year or two years into the war and i just get so bored of it. The enemy AI which only does broad offensives, the Battleplanner friendly AI just being such a pain in the rear to babysit (which isn't helped by thousands and thousands of tiny provinces which the AI often trips over itself with), the lack of any interesting events or decisions in the mid to late war, countries like China and Soviet Union falls way too quickly and easily (I even had China on two bars of buffs, Japan with none, and China still lost by 39), and there's just so much missing or not implemented correctly.
Really, I think they need to have a clear focused and feasible vision for HoI5. Don't try to compromise and get the best of both worlds because that clearly didn't work out well with HoI4 (HoI2's big picture + HoI3's micro tactical focus). Stick to one side or the other in terms of scope.
Personally I would prefer if HoI5 went all in the big picture macro route. Have players actually feel like they're the head of the government who has to unite and coordinate with their civilian politicians, military generals, leading scientists and engineers, and gain support from multiple demographics/classes in your nation.
I was chatting with my friend yesterday about how more interesting it would be if instead of you just deciding to Research Tigers willy nilly, you instead would go to the industrialists or military engineers and ask for 'Heavy Tanks' and eventually they'll come to you and offer you designs like how historically two different companies offered the Tiger design to Hitler. One being Porsche and the other Henschel. Both had their pros and cons but yeah, you being the nation's leader would be able to choose between the two instead of how in HoI4 you just pick one company and they design ALL the tanks for you, all of which didn't spring out of nowhere and came out of experience in combat such as the Panther tank. Germany would never have built the Panther tank if it didn't face T34s but in hoi4 you can build Panthers anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
And it would be cool to try to secure loyalty from your generals lest they resign, kill themselves, or decide to coup you. And it shouldn't be so easy to just put Patton in charge of the best army because 'He has the best stats'. No one knew Patton was the best general in 1936. There's no reason to put McNair or Fredenall in charge of high command in HoI4 other than for garrisons.
I could go on about things I'd like to see but yeah, provincial micro tactical combat? Nope. I'd do away with that, having the smallest unit of area be a state/region. It would make the Battleplanner work like a charm and again, it would make more sense for you as a national leader. Most leaders didn't boss and babysit their generals to take individual provinces. So yeah, combat would be 'simpler' to compliment the weakness of the Battleplanner AI and be more thematic with the big picture focus.
Oooph, would like to write more but i'll save it up for a proper HoI5 wishlist post :b

Truth be told, I think MtG is the last DLC for HoI4. HoI5 is what I fear to be next, leaving HoI4 effectively unfinished; just like HoI3 got abandoned after TFH. Development has to end eventually, and Paradox seems to be cramming in as much as they can into MtG. It feels in every way like this is gonna be it.
While I agree that these are the most important countries that are currently represented in the game, I think we need first the really important nations added:

Not to mention that the devs have repeatedly alluded to future expansions and plans. These ideas that PDX would already stop development for HOI 4 after only two and a half years to basically restart development by doing HOI 5 are downright silly. WtT sold a million copies and the stats one can find out about the playerbase on Steam shows it is still very much alive.
Its better to change something you have than build something new.Not to mention that the devs have repeatedly alluded to future expansions and plans.

Eu4 is pretty much the textbook definition of why Hoi4 needed such a reboot from the previous entries in the series. Because Eu4 carries far to much baggage from the previous games.Plus EU4 is almost three years older than HOI4 with no end in sight. Anyone who thinks HOI4 is ending anytime soon is delusional. I expect AT LEAST two or three more major expansions.
I wouldn't mind a more active Central America, South America, and Caribbean. I mostly play as USA, and having all those passive countries down there is kind of annoying... (I'd like to use the USA to convert the two continents into democracies, then form my own bloc...)
Add in Finland for more Winter War mechanics.
Much more than just Winter War mechanics will be needed. People seem to forget that Finland was at war during every year of the Second World War, with only 15 months of interim peace. The Winter War was just the first 105 days of fighting.
That's even better, as those same people also forget that Bulgaria switched sides in September of 1944 and fought the Germans in Yugoslavia, Hungary and was in Austria by the end of the war. Even more reason to pack the two countries together with Soviet rework![]()
