Does Steam offer only the version (PC/Mac/Windows etc) of the game that is identical to its downloading client, or do the user need to set it himself? I realize that there are very few cases in which one might want either in a version not compatible with the other, but there are cases in which it's relevant to download it to one computer and play it on another with a different OS.
However, Steam doesn't exactly appear to be big in offering user customizability - they really sound like trying to make as much as possible to be foolproof at the cost of blocking out options that few might end up using.
