What does offset mean?

And how exactly does it affect your event?
I know it has to do with time triggers, but really know next to nothing as to what effect it has.
Someone explain this to me.

Offset says game engine how often triggers should be checked between date and deathdate.
So offset = 1 means that triggers will be checked every day and
offset = 180 means that trigger will be checked once for 180 days.
