I suspect a Europa Universalis III expansion is a fait accompli at this point.

Although, I imagine its contents will simply be things that mods have already done, so I rather hope it contains plenty of stuctural changes so as to warrant the price for those who are likely to purchase it.

I suppose ultimately it's about sales over logic, which is fair enough - Paradox are there to make money afterall.

Even though I know my point is mute, I voted for Rome... It is a nice game which offers a different perspective to EUIII and vicky2. My second choice would be HOI3... like EUIII, it could become the preeminent game in the genre for years and years. I believe Vicky2 is already going to be pure gold at release, maybe with a few dings malleable gold can take, but still gold.

While a new expansion is good for EUIII a new one for Rome would be that much better to fans of that series. Plus it might bring in new fans... but alas, paradox must listen to its base. Expand away.

EU was the original. Even while CK, HOI, and Vicky 1 were around, the EU2 community was still very active. I'd say that's a given.

Though I did a random vote (my fault o), I think Rome fans have convinced me. So here's my support for Rome, as my Schrödinger-sort-of-a-quarter-of vote is not been a clear option (damned notepad keyboard)

I like it how EU3 has proven to be very flexible and expandable. Three additional layers already cover the original game and it has gotten better every time. I just hope that the possible fourth expansion would add something to the structure of the game instead of just correcting the historical map.

Please make countries more diverse and flexible entities. It is great how rebels became rebels with a cause. This sort extension would be great to see in state affairs.

Really, focus in too much on warfare only.

I chose EU3 because I really enjoy the game a lot. Rome would be my second choice, seeing as how it hasn't received as much love as EU3. HoI 3 would be my third choice since it just received an expansion. Vicky2, as much as love the game, isn't even out yet so an expansion would be a bit presumptuous at this point.

Hate to say it, but I think it's more a case of EU3 players not needing to comment as they know EU3 will be the clear winner.

With the release of Semper Fi today, I imagine that the next expansion will be announced sometime soon?

Heir to the Throne announced August, released December
Semper Fi announced April, released June.

I'd say a couple of months. They like to come up with a feature list get a couple in game and announce with a couple of screenshots.

On HOI3: I don't play it much. I bought the expansion, but I still won't play it much. I have a feeling I'll end up playing it the most as an extension from Vicky2. So I'd rather a new expansion to something I like more.

On Vicky2: It's not out yet. It looks amazing, but I'd rather wait until it loses replay value before an expansion.

On Eu3: Definitely my favorite of avaiable Paradox games, indeed all games. But it has so many things to do all ready. While making Africa palyable would be nice, I can still do other things and have fun. I've yet to meet all of my goals for a Byzantium game.

On Rome: I'd play it a whole lot more if there was more to do I think. Actually, I have no idea what would get me to play it more, which is why I support an expansion. I like it as it is, but I always get bored playing it for some reason. Expansions make things better. Also, it seems neglected compared to other games. I guess I'm just rooting for the underdog.

Obviously because EU3 votes come from hordes of barbarian savages. We must defend civilization. That's why after the Rome expansion be issued, we should hold a triumph for Johan.

Back when Paradox asked what game they should make, all the posts were about Vicky, but people vote with their wallet and EU3 won there.

Polls are fickle. What matters is what people are willing to purchase.

Well after playing Rome for a bit, I have to say Rome first.

I am a fan of both, although I tweak the latest badboy changes in EU3 to my liking. It just seems there is so much yet to explore in the Rome timeframe, especially if you are considering the Alexander period, which I believe many people would enjoy seeing modeled in a paradox game.

Also I really enjoy the expanded character aspect of Rome, if you were to bring in a larger and more detailed map, the detail being in areas such as Italy and Greece, you would only increase the immersion of the game. There are plenty of choices for new nations or powers to explore, and perhaps a tweak to make the internal powerstruggles even more evident between characters, especially on a slightly more detailed map, and you'll have a great expansion.

This is just pure speculation as you could take this many ways: That they are satisfied with all the expansions they currently have, or that they have not yet played them sufficiently to warrant another yet, or like you say they know their game is clearly the more popular, and thus it makes the poll irrelevant.

I was more surprised that HOI3 hasn't done better, even if they are getting a new expansion released, being a new game I'd have expected it to rival EU3 on that chart.

Maybe because SF wasn't out as the poll has started? Why should someone vote for a second expansion before the first expansion is released? The same for Vicky2. Why should I vote for a game to get an expansion which isn't released yet?

EU3 and Rome are the only reasonable options to vote. And Rome needs more love atm than EU3 (which is polished like hell) so everybody who hasn't voted yet -> go and vote for Rome!

This is again a very subjective question, I'll list a few for you if it will help.

Because they don't play the other games, or don't plan to spend any money on the other games.
Because they know what is going to be in the expansion, and instead/or additionally would enjoy what is being offered here.
Because it is their favored title, and they want to support its development.
Because they want to vote against the popular vote (goes on in all polls).

There are many motivations, but there are a few.

For those of us who are particularly interested in Vicky 2 and its community, the vote for an expansion that gives us a start date for the Civil War really is a bit of a no-brainer; not that I'll probably use it, but a lot of people in the Vicky community would, with a certainty.

Not to mention the other feature that was hinted at in this thread, regional markets, which I certainly wouldn't mind seeing. I enjoy the world market as it is, but that would be a definite improvement.
