What do you want in the Box?

Go with the map:

• We're all map nerds at heart. There's nothing I liked more than my EU2 map with the shields around it
• Reference materials for POPs, etc. can be useful and is akin to those uber cool fold-out maps for RTSs such as AOE that showed development of industries and buildings
• It's good for your brand, because the occasional dude will hang the map on her/his wall (think dorm room) so others can see it
• The manuals on the other hand are quickly outdated and while well-written aren't as easy to reference as Wikis
• Maps are pretty

A manual please. I know it will only be an abridged version of a PDF copy included on the disc but it will still be handy.

I'm personally not too interested in a map -it doesn't help solve my problems when I'm in the middle of a game and need to reference the rules for something.

I'd like to have two following things in the box:

1) - the disk itself how the hell can you install and play the game if you don't have a disk??

2) - a Map is a second must. I'd prefer political (at the beginning of 1836 scenario) with country flags showed in those cute frames instead of ordinary capital dots.

Two words: shelve space.
Big 1990s boxes don't get any. You need easy to stock slim DVD cases. Big manual + map don't fit.

In the vicky 1 forum, the one recurrent issue was the learning curve, strongly hampered by the lack of proper tutorial. I would suggest you guys work on that, and put a printed 20steps quick start Belgium tutorial into the box. You know, the one type which doesn't frighten you because it weigts heavier than you coffee cup, with lots of drawings and little text, and which matches exactly the in-game tutorial...

I voted 'online' but I agree this is probably the best; the box version should probably assume many/most buyers will not be existing Paradox customers (or at least not familiar with the original Victoria).

Vicky is not an easy-to-learn game. To help new and old players the box should include a booklet that guides you safely through the tutorial. Although I'd like to have a printed manual, I know that I'll put it aside, once I have read it. And only in rare circumstances I'll refer to it. For the longevity of the game are a large map and a comprehensive reference card more important.

a nice big map would be the best choice. as mentioned above, the manual's gonna be obsolete by the second patch or so. ditto for reference charts.

i'll be buying this game online however, thanks to horrendous price-gouging by australian video game retailers.

But maybe if they improve digital distribution with replicator technology from Star Trek we might get free food with games.

A map would be better. If EU3 is any indication, the manual will be outmoded within a few months.

One request -- if you do a map, print province names on it. I got the big EU3 map, but without the province names, it's kind of pointless.

Real men, doesn't read manuals. By the way, doesn't Victoria 2 have a video tutorial like almost every other Paradox game? I didn't learn much from the HoI3 tutorial, but what evah!
Next time, don't have small men into your tutorials please...
