If it is a big enough map I would LOVE to have the province numbers on it, modding made easy.

I have no patience so I'll buy online but the map looks so much more attractive than a thick manual.

You have to consider the people who aren't registered here (surely you're hoping that they pick up Vicky 2 also). They aren't going to want a map, they are going to want a manual, especially considering that they haven't been reading the dev diaries. While we already know how to play more or less, they aren't going to have a clue. Also, the HoI 3 manual was really nice and I want more like it

Even tough I voted for the map, I think it should be a manual in the regular version for new players, and both in the collectors edition (I assume there will be one) since the ones who already like vic1 would love a map in vic2 (especially the modders) and we all know that if you loved vic1 you will buy the collectors edition for vic2.

If we can't have both i want the map. After the 1st patch half of the manual would be wrong anyway so it's better to have a big good looking map.

please just make it look 19th century. I just love the old maps.

P.S. this poll means we have a release date?

I hate the map. I had one when i bought EU3 complete. I unfolded it once, no info at all and put it away. Where are the manuals we have come to love from paradox. I remember my first Paradox manual from EU 1. I remember reading about stability and diplomacy over and over again. In fact I used to read the manual before i went to sleep. And then the HOI2 manual. Explaining all the battle mechanics, you could refer to it at any moment.
I might be oldschool i know but pdf manuals dont quite do it and as for maps, victoria portraits or little german helmets, irrelevant...

Map. If manual will be available on the net (something like wikis on paradoxian.org), or in PDF version on the CD. But it would still be nice to invent some way how to include both of them. For example, manual could be appended to the DVD cover from outside of the box.

I voted for the first option because I think it gives the user the most. The manual should be bigger than 64 pages for Vicky2 so I can use the .pdf file and print it out.

If there is going to be an manual on the CD with no set page limit anyway, "A big printed map of the world and a reference sheet of pops, goods & factories" is the obvious choice. It is the more useful, it wouldn't appear otherwise, and the manual is easier to print off if you still want a physical copy.

In the vicky 1 forum, the one recurrent issue was the learning curve, strongly hampered by the lack of proper tutorial. I would suggest you guys work on that, and put a printed 20steps quick start Belgium tutorial into the box. You know, the one type which doesn't frighten you because it weigts heavier than you coffee cup, with lots of drawings and little text, and which matches exactly the in-game tutorial...
I voted 'online' but I agree this is probably the best; the box version should probably assume many/most buyers will not be existing Paradox customers (or at least not familiar with the original Victoria).

If I had to get a box for some reason (or if there were a Collector's Edition) I'd prefer the map and/or reference sheet over a printed manual.

I voted map.

Why?

Because I still have the map from every game I've ever purchased that came with one and if it looks nice you can hang it on the wall.

So long as it's stated somewhere on the boxed version that there's a manual in pdf form on the disc I don't think there will be a big problem with selecting a map and reference sheets.

Manuals typically cover the basic concepts which means if the person who bought it continues to play then it will have a very limited use. I see printed reference sheets being much more useful over the long term while one plays.

I voted map and reference sheets. I've never played Victoria (in fact this is my first post in the V2 forum) and I think reference sheets will be more usefull to a new player like me. A small physical manual will probably not help me much, because it will only be able to cover the bare basic concepts.

So as long as there is a fat juicy pdf manual on the disc I'm happy. I can just drop it on my phone and read it wherever and whenever I like. Add some reference sheets and a map and I'm ready to roll. Also, I like maps.

Considering plenty of game mechanics will change after a few patches and there may even be adjustments to POPs on the map, I think including either as something that is printed will end up being a waste of funds since it will be obsolete shortly.

But then again, I'm also buying the game online. ;)

Victoria 2 has captured my attention to its economic model so I will definitely getting this once it comes out but here is a few things that I would like to see in the final edition for release.

Victoria 2 Boxed
Key-binds sheet - Don't underestimate this it would be very useful and doesn't really go out of date.
Map of the world - A map of the world with each province having colour coding with about terrain modifiers.

Victoria 2 Collectors Edition (Including all normal items)
Prussia Flag - Yes you know you wanted it too xD
Sound Track Disk - Maybe not really required haha
