War needs to be updated on both the strategic and the fleet combat level.

Diplomacy could use more options and complexity too and could be combined maybe. One thing that might be cool is diplomats as characters to hire

the current crisis's are way to easy and boring and needs a complete overhaul to make it better and a threat they should be and to add new crisis's as well. Would also like to see super weapons/doomsday weapons and would also like to see the ability to travel and explore new galaxies. Improvements on the Sector AI and Improvements on diplomacy and war and finally do something about doomstack's

I agree, they need to move away from relying on the CK2 and EU4 style of combat. I feel they should abstract it out a bit more to allow for additional layers of complexity beyond doomstacks hitting each other. (such as how naval combat works in HoI4 with mission objectives, deployment zones and ships being able to retreat from mid battle to go repair.)

I'm torn between war and economy. On one hand, I really want ticking warscore and a bit more nuance to peacemaking. On the other hand, a trade system and dedicated planets would make non-war so much better.

It's difficult for me to choose because it's essentially: "Which half of the time you spend playing a campaign do you want improved?"

If we got a few quality of life tweaks for war, I'd probably say economy. I can deal with doomstacks if there are interesting peace time mechanics.

For me I think someone else summed it up best as 'more peace-time activities'. Most of the time I feel like I'm in a war or just gearing up for the next war. I want more activities to do during peace. I'd like to have some game-play where war, both civil and between empires, is a looming spectre that I don't want to get necessarily get dragged into. Where I can build a powerful empire that can dominate in some other capacity as well as have a strong enough diplomacy and political system where I can avert war or make war undesirable for my opponents in some way, or going another direction sowing dissent in other empires or between other empires to fracture federations. Not sure how that can be accomplished, but yeah I definitely want not just war to be expanded, and it most certainly should be expanded, but for peace to be expanded as well. I don't want to just live in the Warhammer 40k universe, sometimes I want to live in the Star Trek or Babylon 5 universe as well.

On a more serious note, would there ever be much demand for Civilization style Science and Cultural victory conditions? Another thread talks about Fanatical Pacifists not having much to do, perhaps this would help. Also not everybody is in to endless combat. While clearly central, war shouldn't dominate games to the extent that you're always at war, or just about to go to war. I'd definitely like the game to have an increasing amount of ways to build, develop and expanded your empire technologically and culture/ethos wise with war as just one of the contributing factors.
