Yeah, and in V2, you can release it as a nation, and it has a bunch of decisions revolving around replacing the humans there with polar bears. (The generals have polar bear portraits.)

Now that I think about it, couldn't it be scenarios too? We've seen nothing to indicate that the base-game will have any scenarios like the old Hearts of Iron Games did, with the spanish civil war, a Brazil-Argentine war, Barbarossa, African front, etc.

Well, i really do not understand why so many people want to see WWI in a WWII Game. The game would loose its focus imho and the timeline would not be from 28.07.1914 on because you need the same build up time so maybe 1910. 40 Years in this game ist an eternity and i doubt that this would be something you would like to play. vic3 will take care of this or maybe an all new franchise?

to answere the ops question: i think the first one will be airdrop supply and espionage the second one will probably be a nft expansion for minors
i do not really think they will implement fuel in a way we would like to see it.
but who knows? after all i am just writing this to get over a few minutes more without hoi4 :D

I. Espionage - including some work on Leadership - so that the AI can be completely turned off totally or at the General/Field Marshall level for those who don't want the AI to ever touch units. OOB set up - Generals able to operate under field marshals to use the General level skills in the parts of large offensives as drawn up at the Field Marshall level.

II. Advanced Supply - Introducing new materials needed to wage war - fuel among them, and changes to the naval and land systems.

III. Air Force rework, including narrowing of bombing targets and more logical 'Fighters encountered along the way' combat model. Included also will be escorting bombers partway by fighters, rather than just the 'air superiority' in the sector modifier. Also included will be carrier aircraft trees and air supply.

IV. Fun pack: Have things like Notifications that a damaged ship is in some way crippled (i.e. Bismark and the rudder) and give an opportunity to launch a specific strike to try to sink it. Other time period maps (particularly for the modders), etc.

If they follow earlier practices, there will be 3 - 4 expansions, and thats it. Or, maybe to make more money, they'll butcher it down to size ala EU 4 and CK 2, and before you manage to turn around, there are 10 expansions out improving specific areas of the game. I *really* hope that they'll take the former route, but i suspect (with dread) that we are in for the latter.

CK 2 was released in February 2012. Its absolutely still alive, but it currently has 11 (thats eleven) expansions.

Frankly, I love the CK model - it allows me to pick and choose the mechanics that are interesting to me and gives me an ability to add depth where I'd like it. I'll say that there were mechanics in FTM (covert ops anyone?) that I used once to see what they are and never used again. If they bundled them as separate expansions, they could give the depth and attention required to make them exciting and allow players who don't see any value in those to skip them.

If I had a choice, I'd love the first DLC to include one of the following (or two if they're feeling extra generous!):
  • Added focus trees, events, companies and politicians for a region of participants (Balkans, Scandinavia, Southeast Asia, etc.)
  • Naval combat improvements (ship supply, better invasion AI all around, events for ships/combats, submarine aces and additional traits for naval captains)
  • Covert Ops, Reconnaissance and Experimental Weapons (added functions/events for the presence of recon units, empire espionage - including stealing other nations company effects, ability to set templates as experimental and recover other peoples templates, etc.)
  • Added national unity related events and functions (ability to create internal events to improve NU or sacrifice it for additional benefits - increase in MP or improved diplomacy with neighbors, etc.). Improvements for other aces and a historical log of all of your aces throughout the game, along with their battles.
  • Added playability to non-participants (same as first, but for Latin America, South Africa, Asian minors, etc.)
Granted, they'd have to focus pretty deeply in any of these points to really get your $25.

The Problem with World War I and the cold war is that they require fundamentally different mechanics. WWI should be slow it should be painful to gain a single province. The Cold War on the other hand needs a whole slew of mechanics to prevent Nuclear Armageddon and direct War between the U.S. and Russia.

I'd like to create custom nations, kind of like EU4 lets you make a bunch and put them all on the map.

Looking at the modding videos, that looks like it should be very possible. I'm hesitant to say easy, as it's mostly out of my depth, but it looks simple enough.

I am holding out for a Cold War expansion, maybe not a full campaign running 45-90 but small scenarios would be great, like Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, maybe the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Personally I'd like to see a full-on alt-history scenario or two (would be a ton of work though, so probably that'll be left to the modders) and a somewhat more detailed political system.

Most people seem to believe in dlc expanding timelines and focusing on different time periods like ww1 or cold war.

I think this fits the current dlc policy badly, basing my opinion on how they manage eu4. The mentioned ideas expand the game's width and requires overhauls that will probably be solved by modding.

My bet is the dlcs will focus on adding to the game's depth, with more mechanics and flavor. And adding National Focuses and fleshing out countries. Maybe adding in releaseable nations?

please, the first expansion needs to be ESPIONAGE!!!! i was shocked when i heard there wasnt any espionage in this game. how do you have a WWII 4X game without espionage!
