I'm curious as to what everyone thinks is the biggest/best QoL change between HOI4 and its predecessors. Personally one of the biggest struggles I had in HOI3 was making sure I was actually using my air force, too many times I left my fighters idle in air bases either due to negligence or frustration, it is the one hurdle I could never conquer. HOI4 lets you assign massive #'s of fighters/bombers/etc to regions limiting the micromanaging headache of moving squadrons around and setting up individual interdiction missions. What do you guys think the biggest QoL is???

The National Focus tree will certainly give you a clear path of where to go. As someone who haven't played an installment of HoI before this, this is a very welcome change.

I wholeheartedly agree, too many times I had to just either automate (which is more or less useless, they hardly undertake any missions whatsoever) or just manually set air wings to repeat an order, until they were eventually wiped out through attrition or constant battle, there was just too much to manage all at once, especially on the eastern front.

My absolute favorite new feature would be the way that equipment is modeled individually now.

Also battle plans seem like a real great way to control large numbers of troops without either handing ALL control to the AI, or controlling everything which was a pain in hoi iii.

Another one would be the way production lines and resources work now, which seems like it will be so much more fun to manage than hoi2 and 3's...

I could keep going on for a while, but honestly I'm more hyped for this game than I was for hoi 3, and believe me, that is saying a lot!

For me it is easily the partisan uprisings. I am so very glad that whole system has been revamped. I agree with you about the air force. I'm also looking forward to MP. I think that is where this game is going to garner most gamer acclaim, IMHO.

Definitely division templates. If I'm playing Darkest Hour or HoI3, making what should be a simple change like "add some AT guns to all my infantry divisions" is a chore, comparatively.

This. The hardest part of hoi 3 was due to this. Like said above, adding anything to existing units was a pain.

For me its the Civil War/Coup mechanic. I was always annoyed at how it was impossible to attempt to stop an enemy without going to war with them. Understandably, this might be suited more to a Cold War game, but I never quite understood why you couldn't, say, support rebels, or destabilize an enemy (In fact, one of my most satisfying HOI3 games was centered around using coups and lend lease exclusively as America. Allies won, no communism outside of the USSR). Hell, after a practice round as Italy or Germany to learn the game first thing I am doing is CIA-ing it up as the US (or rather OSS-ing) and establishing democracies everywhere, without firing a single shot.

The interface maybe? If its anything like how Stellaris is, then I think I'm in for a treat. With Hoi3 everything was intimidating, buttons everywhere, too much to do. HoI4 looks cleaner and easier on the eye, and they've said they're making it more accessible so I hope it is easy to get into.

Navies. Dear god the navies. Naval warfare might actually bear some resemblance to reality now. Also being able to upgrade infrastructure by region instead of by province. And infrastructure having an economic benefit.

As someone who still plays darkest hour religiously im so happy they have gone back to the "branching story/open history" that was in DH and HOI2 in events
Iv tried to get into HOi3 and enjoyed parts of it but it felt so railroaded it hurt. But this looks great :D

Although all the above preferences are very nice, I would vote for the new production system. It is a huge step toward forcing a rational production strategy upon players. No more near instant upgrades--no more changing production types on a spur moment--it is great.

The automation of trade is a big relief also.

1.BATTLE PLANNER : it was really annoying to control all my troops on every front taking in account the number of provinces in HOI3 but with the battle planner system i can wage war on two fronts with out getting frustrated or being over run by small pockets of enemy troops.

2.PRODUCTION SYSTEM : even thought it was good the production system of the old games was a bit UNREALISTIC. all i had to do was just research tanks and then voila i can deploy a whole army of tanks. with the new production system it adds more flavor to the game.

3.NATIONAL FOCUSES : there were times when we faced the most desperate question in the game. WHAT NEXT ? with the new focus tree system, they made it a lot easy on to which way your nation to go on for the ultimate victory.

there are many more things that are new and exciting in the new game but in my opinion these were worth putting in the new game as they take HOI to a whole new level.

For me it had to be getting rid of the multi layered order of battle and having to endlessly make sure the HQs stayed up with the rest of the army without going into combat, and don't get me started on having to start up a game as the Soviet Union...
