One of the changes in the patch was tweaking the de jure placement of Flanders to prevent a day one declaration of war from the HRE in the 1066 starts. And while that does appear to work, I'm not sure how much of a help that is.
From what I've seen, that change just seems to slow down the HRE eating France, as they need to get claims instead of having a quick de jure war to start off with. And with the number of troops the HRE can muster, an AI France doesn't stand a chance.
I saw the HRE eat Bourbon and Poitou in two fairly rapid claimant wars, which is why my frustration pushed me to make this thread. (The weakness from losing the first war triggered a faction war, and the HRE ate the rebels. Totally worth raising council authority, wasn't it?) This has been like this for ages now, but that some effort was made by the devs to try to hinder this had given me hope.
So, I'm wondering: was what happened to me a freak occurrence now, or are most people seeing this when they use the 1066 start and leave the HRE and France under the control of the AI?
Edit:
I suspect the situation might be somewhat aggravated by the higher death rate resulting in a higher than previously normal number of child and female rulers, which in turn creates a much higher likelihood that weak claims can be pressed.
