What do you guys think IGN would give HOI4 in terms of score?

If you google Stellaris, the first thing you see below the game is the review score 6.3 by IGN. Some people speculate it's due to the grudges reviewer had with PDX, or maybe its very just because of his subjective personal taste.

Howver, i think the backlash from some of the stellaris community seemed to make them unhappy (If you check the review comment section you can see moderator arguing with fanboys)

HOI4 is coming out pretty soon, i wonder if this whole drama thing is going to affect their score for HOI4 too. Maybe PDX should do something like EA or Activation is doing to "PAY" some respect for IGN, if you know what i mean. (Just kidding, lol)

Considering how much they seem to dislike giving control of their planet's management to the AI, I think they will be slightly less upset with all the intrusive AI-control in HoI4. Getting a grand strategy game just to hand-over half the game to the AI is not why most people play. At least in every other GSG I play.

Pros- Pretty map, pretty units, pretty interface!

Cons- Accidentally left game running for a few hours when I went to work. Everything's fine. AI ran the war for me. Poland triumphant!

I know official critics have an early access, but I find that giving a score on release day is very quick to fully appreciate a game.

Personally, I prefer Metacritic reviews. I find them generally more accurate or more corresponding to my taste.

On Metacritic, Stellaris scores 79 with critics (11 positive, only 2 mixed - including 63 for IGN - would be 83,5 without them) and scores 9 with users (61 positive, 6 negative).

Funny fact, IGN Italia gave a score of 93, a full 30 points more than IGN.

On Steam, 395 users gave a 92% score.

Especially when 1008 users gave Civ beyond earth a (well deserved) pathetic score of 5.5. He seems to often be at odds with players.

Beyond Earth was beyond terrible but the score he gave Rome 2 (8.8 I believe) pretty much tells you all you need to know about his ability to review games!

I've long since learned not to pay a lot of attention to mainstream gaming sites when it comes to reviews of strategy games (they struggled with RUSE, and have no hope at all with something like a PDS title). Wargamer, Rock Paper Shotgun and the like are the place to go for PDS reviews.

On the by, though - I didn't think Beyond Earth was terrible, but rather solid and workmanlike, but a bit too safe.

I think it will get around 8.0 (+/-0.5).
It looks Ok, feels Ok, less freedom than in EU IV though, which got 8.9.

I think hoi IV will be much more fleshed out on release than stellaris was, but honestly I stopped caring about ign reviews along time ago. Not necessarily because they do bad reviews just a lot of my gaming tastes are not mainstream.

A lot of games they gave mediocre reviews to I really love, these of course are mostly all grand strategy games.

This. This is how EA and crew buy and influence reviews. You can't give them money, but you can buy up addspace

I also agree on this, would also recommend spacesector and gamewatcher as good review sites.

I think we should not care much about a single review from IGN. IGN used to be one of the most respected magazine imo, but it has changed I think..
Generally I think a reviewer should not review a game he does not like much. I don't really understand why people do this. If you look at steam reviews, there are negative reviews of course, but like 90% of them are some stupid non-sense comments like "It does not work", "I don't want to learn this game"(very LMAO review) and so on. What I would really appreciate is that a person, who is into this game, wants to play it etc, writes a review about the game. So if he gives negative score or low score, he supports it with his comments properly and everything is fine.
It seems to me a bit that the IGN reviewer doesn't like the game much at the first place and that is why he gives such low score. As was mentioned above, if he gives 7.9 to CivV-BeyondTheEarth while you can see that the game was a big mistake and unfinished product and people who liked Civ V mostly disliked the game which should have been a DLC, it is strange that he gives 6.3 to a fresh new game with a lot of potential.
I agree that the future development of the game will help it to grow surely and maybe that now the mid-game may be a bit boring for somebody, but it is not a reason to give such low score.
Anyway, a potential buyer of the game won't lose confidence of buying the game just cause of one IGN review, when he can see many positive reviews elsewhere.

Should he be reviewing games based on his own analysis and opinions, or based on the collective assumptions of other players?

I honestly don't care about reviews, they are mostly just clickbait anyway, people should make up their own mind.
But i do find it amazing how many people complain about IGN rating Stellaris 'low'.
Not everyone is equally hyped by the game as if it's a gift from the gods.

As for HoI4, i don't know what IGN will rate it as it depends a lot on the reviewer.
