I was thinking we could compile a list of what we know about Hearts of Iron 3.
If you know something please post it here with a link to the source that stated it (If possible).

What we know:

  • 10.000 Provinces [PI]
  • Scheduled for release in Q3, 2009 [PI]
  • HoI3 will make Jagdmaus extremely happy [PI]
  • Time frame 1936 - 1948 [1]
  • Research is a bit more like HoI 1 than HoI 2, you research multiple parts instead of complete units [1] [3]
  • Divisions will be composed of several brigades which can be chosen [1]
  • The resource system will be different, you have to buy commodities in the economic system [1]
  • There's a mobilization mechanic and reserves, democracies can't deploy loads of troops during peace and but have to mobilize when war is near [1] [3]
  • CAGs will no longer be brigades of carriers but will function indepently [2]
  • More than 20 types of brigades [2]
  • You will have to defend against strategic bombing (or strategic warfare)[2] [PI]
  • The games learning curve will be alot less steep than before [3]
  • The game is four months into production [3]
  • You can now let the AI handle fronts for you, making you able to concentrate on the fronts you're intrested in [3]
  • More than 150 countries to play as [3]
  • All countries will have to fight differently [3]
  • Set up governments in exile and rebuild your army [3]
  • Run a rebel campaign to retake your country [3]

Yes this feature sounds very interesting! I would hope that it makes the final cut I would like to explore that a bit more!

Considering that is one of Paradox's new features that they are advertising, they would never get rid of it. I hope that the AI can effectively manage governments-in-exile too.

If flags are changeable like Victoria, there will probably be exile flags too. (Free France, for example)

Could anyone explain how do you think that this is going to work? Because i think that it will be like HOI1, where most of the times i sent the CVs without a CAG just because i forgot to assign them to a carrier! :D

Now if only they allow to change the country name too....

I would hope that the use of carrier is like HOI2, but the unit is considered split between the ship and its plane complement, so that each could basically attack/defend and take damage separately. Not that the carrier w/o a CAG can attack, but it has AA and stuff. This way port strikes would work differently, and a CAP could be effective rather than abstracted (and essentially non functional) when attacked by land based planes. Also the CAG could sustain losses when attacking ships and in CAP battles without involving the carrier itself.

Very nice. Thanks for this thread. Just returned from a week away from paradox, had not seen the announcement. So getting all this information in one nice pile was really great :)

Good work!
