With only 12 days left, and the menace of thousand of new players coming to I:R, what is unique to 1.5.3?

Is there something that I have to experience now before it is too late?

For me, not really. 2.0 managed what all past IR releases missed: Making me abandon my ongoing game (ok, the too-well-progression of that game -fueled by me stumbling over a forgotten, overpowered feature for 1.5- heavily contributed...). Starting IR before 2.0 again would (for me) only just increase the pain caused by the bye-bye to pie charts and Marble UI...

Feast your eyes on the glowing borders bug while you still can.
In terms of achievements I have a feeling that the AI is going to be a lot tougher and wars more expensive, so getting the ones where you have to conquer half the map is probably easier in 1.5.3.

I am playing in highest difficulty now. I am sure I will go back to normal in 2.0. In 12 days I will not be able to get many achievements, I have never been an achievement hunter, though.

If you haven't experienced fighting the Phrygian Goliath, now is your chance. Phrygia will likely not be this strong in 2.0.

In my current game with Macedon, Antigonid kingdom has won Egypt and Thrace and with 176 cohorts they double any other player in the game (including me).

I will try to beat them before 2.0

I'm trying to get the Boi achievement (plus form gaul). And it's not easy... Rome quickly conquers Italy and declares war at the perfect opportunity (with at least x10 manpower plus higher tech. 6th try now and I finally got a foothold, but then Carthage already is a bit inside gaul. If you haven't got those achievements, I recommend u try ;D

How did you keep Rome at bay? Alliances with Carthage or between tribes?

I annex the counties with same culture group at the start to my north west. I ally every one I could, and did my best to to lose as few men as possible. Eventually I manage to get most of region around me, by annexing 1 by 1. I was a bit lucky, 2 tribes in gaul got pretty big which allied each other and I ally both of them (they could walk all the way down to me). By that time Rome got all the northern parts of Italy. I ally every country I could, I think I got 7 or 8 in total and declared war. Even with all those allies i just manage to win the war and got most of the northern parts. I mainly used LI with the import bonuses, and a few flanking horses.

Rome lost alot of manpower, they didn't remove the cohorts, they were minus 50k I think which gave me alot of time to stabilise and get some men back. Would have been impossible without all the allies, that's for sure. Carthage was never involved in any runs. They claim me tho... So constant worry there to :D

Anytime I've played around Rome in the early game, especially as one of the Greek or Latin Tribes/Polities it's been a slog.
Whenever I've managed to get my head above water, the Roman juggernaut just comes at me like a new wave to force my head back under.

I will say though - those struggles are perhaps my favorite and most memorable campaigns.

And they also seem to come at you at the worst possible time. Some times it feels like AI Rome is a real player, not kidding.

I played my favorite nation which is Epirus for the fourth time just so that I can experience the pre 2.0 update one last time.

It's feels like I'm saying good bye to a good friend.

I had great memories with pre 2.0, and now I will never experience them again...

I remember doing a chillaxed Bosporan run just before 1.3 came out, it was fun.

Probably gonna do a chillaxed Cherso...Cherso....that Democracy next to the Bosporan, so I'd recommend a more relaxed campaign as the send-off to 1.5

Yeah, like the guy said below, the desicion pops up after you move capital there. I took the one in the south next to a major river and port. Its a bit confusing. I was also confused before on how to become monarchy/Republic. First the reform, then a mission pop up. You won't know if ur doing a mission already, which I usually am.

But to not waste time I spam civ upgrade in current capital as soon as game start since that takes ages. To become monarchy faster

The real answer is that I assume we'll have an option on Steam to change your version to 1.5.3, just like we have some other older patches there. So you don't really have to do anything before 2.0 is released, as you can just go back anyways.

Am I the only one that actually prefers the pie chart over doughnuts to display info in Imperator? It feels more complete graphics wise compared to a modeling method that looks like someone shot a whole in the middle of the pie and ate everything around it :)
