-Synthetic DLC. AI race obviously. Will probably feature some kind of Synchronization mechanic, where it's crucial to keep transmission relays working or local servers may go independent.
-Hivemind DLC. Probably with some variation of Synchronization, where you have to balance amount of lesser overlords and population cap.
-Nomad Fleet DLC.
Racial DLCs will also probably add one or two FTL travel options.
-Corporative DLC. Corporations and maybe some other indirectly controlled entities (space Templars?)
-Perhaps some kind of Legacy DLC, where you could construct monumental mechanisms late-game, which could be rediscovered on re-run in same galaxy.

Space corporations sound fairly awesome. Would love to see private interests play a larger role, not just political movements by pops.

The thought of going to war with a rebellious mega corp or waging a Cold War against foreign corporations so your own can gain an upper hand would be great.

I think there will be dlc focused on game features like in ck2 or eu4.

- a trade dlc intruducing an more trade meta gameplay
- a administrative dlc giving you more choices how to rule and develop your empire
- a science/discoveries dlc expanding the way you make progress in science maybe more options for galaxy creations
- a diplomatic dlc introducing more diplomatic gameplay options
- a dlc expanding the faction mechanics
- a more militaristic dlc

There could also be dlcs focusing on:
- spacestations
- pirates
- minor civilizations
- etc.

Many dlc will expand the endgame by intruducing more "fun" events and adding tons of decisions.

I'm taking the easy-money bet...

Unit sprite packs.
Additional leader portraits.
"Songs of Stellaris."

As for more substantitive, expansion-level DLC, synthetic life/playable A.I. Factions seems like a no-brainer. I'd be surprised if it isn't the focus of the first major DLC released. Space-nomads will probably also eventually be a thing, since we know the engine can handle it.

I would like an expansion adding philosophies and religions, maybe something like the Civ V build-a-religion, only done in a more in depth way (e.g. restrict religious temple type stuff to religions, and have religions get more active mechanics (crusade type thing, Inter-civ church type thing, unique cultural researches), while philosophies get more passive buffs (plus different unique cultural researches). Ideally these religions and philosophies would be generated procedurally generated at the beginning of, and during the game. They would have ethical alignments, so xenophilic species might be more likely to adopt something like humanism, but explicitly applied to any sentient creature, (and with this strange fixation on spoons for some reason). Spiritual pops might be more likely to adopt a religion, while materialist might be more likely to adopt a philosophy?
Possibly also mechanics for religions splitting/heresy occurs when it has followers with different ethics?

A possible endgame scenario which might be born out of this is if gods need prayer badly / clap your hands if you believe occurs as an ending, and secret AI deities spawn for the religions, having secret interactions with dice, making events occur and acting for their own unseen purposes? Something like that?

This whole thing could be wrapped up with the cultural expansion, or it could be separate.

Sunrise Invasion sounds more sci-fi to me.

Black-hole-at-the-center-of-the-galaxy-set invasion!

New Phenotypes
Race Graphics Packs
Unit Graphics Packs
New Government Types
Stellar Engineering (Ringworlds, Dyson Spheres, Dyson Swarms)

The first four seems like a pretty safe bet, especially graphics, since it more or less only involves the Graphics Department or whatever outsourced company or artist Paradox uses.

New Government Types and Stellar Engineering will obviously not be singular DLC's but part of larger ones.
