I beat the EU4 RNG and got the perfect provence start, burgundy not rivaling me, willing to ally me after the french fucked off and joining the HRE at just the right time . THe conquests of naples and aragon were icing on the cake as i burned the french to the ground through repeated wars and finally got my goal, jerusalem. I got good king rene after getting hungary and i am now happy that for once, I beat the EU4 RNG.

After a very interesting Anbennar run I spent some hours in MEIOU.

I could achieve everything I planned. I unified India as Jaunapur, strugled with Communication Efficiency building Capitols and roads everywhere.

I became hindu in very hard way, since I couldnt accept the demands of the rebels (my church was strong and prevented me of doing it or something like that).

I became the GP #1 being a rural country with less than 4% of urbanization and only after unifying India I became developing my cities and my education.

I made Ayuthaya and Herat marches and fed them SEA and Persia just to see the liberty desire skyrocket since the DEV count gets really high in the late game with this mod.

Making wars and choosing the maximun loot policy just to make my Great Nobles rich so that they are able to increase farming efficiency is very fun.

Wow I have to admit, it is much better than vanilla.

Now I will try Veritas et Fortitudo. I want to commit genocide as a pre-requisite for coring!

How do you build roads in EU4?

It is a feature from the mod I played. Try MEIOU & Taxes, very interesting. To be honest it is basically another game, way more complex than vanilla EU4.

In the mod Anbennar you can also build/repair some "roads", the subterranean dwarven roads (it is a fantasy mod).

After playing EU4 for too many hours I cant enjoy vanilla so much as before, and the mods are a very good option for replayability.

Today I managed to get a good Brandenburg start;

The King & Heir as 1/2/1/2 & 0/3/0/2 generals for those early siege lv3 for sieges
Fate of Neumark fired in 1445
Wolgast with Friesland as their only ally for an easy grab of Pomerania
Poland didn't declare war on the Teutonic Knights until after me, so I got to snag almost all of West & East Prussia
Stettin with only Saxe-Lauenburg as an ally for some easy Show Strength gains
Remembered not to ally Austria, so I haven't been sucked into the Burgundian Meatgrinder
I have four votes for Emperor, so might actually manage it early !

The only thing I missed out on was an early chance to get a Subjugation CB / PU on Bohemia; I got my dynasty onto their throne, but then their ruler immediately changed to a Bohemian - I assume that's hard coded or an event or something.

In my Ottomans save, I noticed the Timurids were down to just one province.

They had very low trust of me, as I dishonoured a call to arms from Muscovy (in what was a purely suicidal war and I was busy in India), but I got it up, vassalised them and immediately started declaring wars all over the place for their cores back. I don't know why, but taking a formerly big, one province nation like that and building them up again for no diplo or admin points was extremely fun.

Adding a new one from myself; playing as Commonwealth & EVERYTHING GOES RIGHT. I have Bohemia, Hungary, Terminator Teutons as my March. I fight the League War on the Catholic side vs. a Protestant alliance that includes Russia and the Ottomans. There is much slaughter in both Anatolia and Muscovy-Novgorod as the Poles, Lithuanians, Czechs, Hungarians, and Teutonic Knights massacre everyone. Happy Catholic Empire Batman !

I've just gotten to the 'Winged Hussars' stage, and am off to sack Constantinople in the name of Christ and the Commonwealth.

Sometimes it feels like I actually live in a Sabaton song.

I recently was going through a really fun (and highly recommended) Dithmarschen game where I stacked their extra 5% admin efficiency with Hanover's restoration of union CB on Great Britain and then went on to form Prussia to unite Germany and rule the New World, but there were a few things I learned along the way that I wanted to do better. Mostly this had to do with riding the republic train for too long before converting to a monarchy to PU GB and consequently not being able to get through the monarchy government reforms fast enough to finish all the Prussian missions I wanted before forming Germany. I also converted to Protestantism right away and GB decided to stay Catholic, so I had to waste time converting back in order to get the PU and then back again to form Prussia.

So I started the same run again, and this time I'm off to a flying start thanks to some dumb luck. The Austrian emperor died heirless and fell under a PU with Bregenz, putting Hesse on the imperial throne. Then, through a combination of mission rewards and an advisor, I was able to get to +5 diplo rep, ally six of the seven electors, and dismantle the empire in 1472. The only downside to this is that without the empire, I can't get the free peasant revolt CB from the imperial incident, but the AE is still lower with regular old conquest but no empire. The mission to win the Great Peasants' War is dumb/bugged/too RNG/incomprehensible anyway since last time I got the emperor to grant concessions and it still didn't qualify as completing the mission. I think (think) you need to have four "enforce peasant rule" peace deals ready to go within a year for when the incident fires, which is just hard to do because you can't apply it to allies and you'll only have so many neighbors at a time (and you'll need to have already applied it to a few others first).

I also went hard on conquering more of the lowlands earlier than last time and my economy turned the corner to major English Channel prosperity right around 1500. (It helped that Burgundy actually died this time, as opposed to every other game I've played where they get an heir, connect all their holdings, and buddy up with France to form a big western bloc.) So I'm looking forward to the rest of this run.

Sidenote: Poland is going all out with no empire to stop them, and I was actually able to pick up the Grand Coalition achievement for being in a coalition against them. They're allied to Denmark, and no one (including me) has dared to support Sweden's independence yet.

There was two waves of Revolution, one in Artois and the other in Stockholm. The second was more successful as it got me, Sweden and half of Europe. Didn't help me against the military power juggernaut called Persia.

I love the endless death waves amongst military generals and my monarchs and how the game handles that by making it such a nice surprise - especially that I obviously know their age and I should expect that myself.
And countless tries to re-run the game from the last save, enjoying all that hassle just to extended their lives by a year or 2 before I hit exit absolutely not regretting spending any money on this game.

Finally gave in to Paradox and played as Sweden going for the 'Lion of the North' and 'Sweden is not overpowered' achievements.
Especially the Lion of the North was harder than expected, since I was the only great power on the protestant side (France, Ottomans did not join any side). When I declared on Austria my side was outnumbered by almost 1:2. But after a long war and some lucky events (getting 15K free manpower) managed to win the war and getting the achievement. After this the Sweden is not overpowered was super easy, since it was free HRE land without Austria as Emperor.
Definitely one of the more fun league wars I had, since it took some time and quite a bit microing to keep my allies in the war.

Wow. You got patience brother.

It reminds me of the influenza event in this game.

I try to contain it unless the border province is. ...a CB warranted.

I enjoy achievement hunting, I like testing my skills and knowledge at the game. Between achievement runs I'll play England or France going for a world conquest. Haven't gotten it yet, but it feels like I am getting close. Mostly just need some guides and information on how to play the end game, since most guides talk about early and mid game which I'd say I'm fairly proficient at.

Just started run as Sweden, barely got independence and suddenly... Got Personal Union over England!
They even ceded Maine so they kept all other mainland possessions. Now only got to deal with their liberty desire... Gotta grow fast

Methuen, I always enjoy reading your posts! Especially since you also share these reports of things not going your way and taking steps to bounce back after some losses; that's a great mentality to have (and to share)! Good luck on your reconquest of Manchuria!

Hey sorry I missed that - glad you're enjoying the thread, I read the posts too & get a lot of ideas from the adventures of others ! - Manchuria went well, eventually that game ended in a bit of a stalemate; I'd got the Form Russia achievement, but the Portugese had colonised Alaska, and I'm not too fond of fighting world wars (they were tied into a spiderweb of HRE alliances). Nice for it to end on an almost historical 'piece via MAD' situation though.

My current game is my first Sweden game (looking for both achievements). I got really lucky, and with hindsight too lucky, with my independence war; Novgorod and Scotland joined me, Scotland used their navy to land troops which made the ground war really, really easy. My Swedish spearmen won their battles with stackwipes "Aha !" thinks I, "this is going to be like playing as Prussia !". It wasn't. Fast forward to the truce expiry, and I declare on Denmark again, without paying too much attention to their alliances. Turns out that Stettin, Mecklenburg, & Wolgast put out an irritating volume of fort-exclusion zones between them - so with my soldiers trapped in siege hell, I was completely occupied by happy little 1 & 2k Norwegian stacks & white-peace'd out.

I changed tack, rivaled the Livonian and Teutonic Knights; vassalising the remains of the former (and using their reconquest CB against a Poland that bizarrely didn't chose the PU with Lithuania), and splitting the latter into my new vassals Estonia and Livonia. This gives me three vassals, including the Teutonic combat bonuses (I always set them as a March for extra brute force). I've also learned that an early Baltic game needs a navy, so I have a stack of galleys, transports, and a couple of Carracks - Danish barques for the capturing of.

My next war is going to be another crack at Denmark-Norway; aiming to reduce Norway to the point that I can vassalise them also, and therefore annex Iceland / the islands off Scotland as my colonisation stepping stones. It's going to be slightly easier as I can leave my pet Knights & Baltic vassals in North German Fortification World, and my mighty Swedish lions can invade Denmark. At least that's the plan.

What have I enjoyed so far in this game ? The flexibility that lots of weak countries around you gives in changing your gameplan, Poland not picking their PU (Poland is NOT going to space in this game) and also the requirement to use a navy; it's possible (as others observe) to get away with ignoring the naval game for a lot of countries. In the Baltic it feels more vital, at least so far.
