I especially like the generic decisions (which you'll see in a future DD), they bring very much to do during peace and war.

I will only state the obvious. :)

Decisions (so you can actually impact the course of events).
Claims (you can add/remove them dynamically).
World War One scenario (different combat system, different objectives..).
The map (much more tactical opportunities and also new strategic dilemmas to deal with).
The whole new database (countries, ministers, events/decisions...).
Oh and something not really obvious when you don't have access to the beta but speed is very nice too. :)

As a result, you get the feeling to actually embody the leader of your country and to be responsible for the fate of your people. DH is not just about nice refinements here and there. It is a completely new mindset that you get into. :)

I want to underline a triptych of important points i have come to realize through the beta: i) Stability. I have been through MANY beta games now, and i got a laughably low amount of CTDS ii) Speed. The game goes like lightning, even in late game, iii) Superb Map. Seriously, after you have experienced this level of map detail, you'll never be able to enjoy the vanilla map again. I tried to do that, and just got bored !
I believe that these are the points veteran HoI gamers would like to see. Many other things are pretty nice, like the decisions and tech-tree, but you'll just have to wait and see those. As a gamer who has seen more than his share of buggy, crashing, nerve-wrecking mods and games, i can guarantee beyond a doubt your gaming satisfaction on those three fields :)

The DH map is different from the E3 Map. However, it is true that many developers from the E3 Map joined the DH team and helped with the creation of the new map. And if there are similarities (because obviously they have common goals and philosophy), the DH map has been researched and drawn from scratch and is quite different from the E3 map.

My question is exactly the opposite actually.

Theres so many WW2 Paradox-published games now that Im really confused by it all.

What does AoD have thats MISSING in DH? What features will I "lose" by moving to DH, basically?

I have glanced over the diaries but I'm not even sure if DH is built using Doomsday, Arma, or AoD as it's "Base".

Its hard to pick a game because there are frankly some things I like and dislike in Semper Fi, AoD, etc. Im praying that DH might be the "perfect blend".

Thanks!

@Amallric: As AC said, this isn't the E3 map. I wasn't fond of the E3 map at all, but this one, at least according to the screenshots, accomodates both periods (both WWI and II), which the previous HOI games didn't have. But regardless; even if it were the E3 map, it's still miles ahead of the vanilla HOI2/AoD one.

Darkest Hour covers both World Wars which is something no other game does. :)
It uses an entirely new hand-drawn map that offers new tactical and strategic opportunities and dilemmas to deal with.
It based on a dynamic diplomacy system where players and AI take domestic/foreign/economic decisions and directly claim territories. Two games can therefore never look the same!
We have also a unique combat system that depicts the very specificities of each world war.

And there are a lot of things that would be too long to enumarate right now.
The game engine is built over Europa engine over which were built other successful games such as Europa Universalis, Victoria, Crusader Kings and of course, Hearts of Iron.

Yes, as a mod. Not as an integral part of the game, put in there by the developers. Fact is AoD focused on engine improvements instead of a new map, while DH seems to have both. And no, read the DD again; they originaly wanted to use the E3 map, but decided on making their own one using some of the guidelines of E3, but a completely different one.

1) The map looks really good, it feels like a real map, not a bunch of round-shaped provinces put together;
2) Decisions, which may seem underrated, but they add a lot to the game;
3) Auto-trade system, because it works and I can forget about this for my whole game (unless I want to change some parameters, for example to order the AI to stockpile money if I need them for a generic decision);
4) the AI is using spies against me for many different missions (delay research, delay production, raise dissent, fund partisans, steal blueprints) and can be really annoying;
5) the AI can nuke me!
6) The performance, the game is fast on my old PC;
