We all know the situation of having your 6/6/6 king die in the 7. month of his reign. Meanwhile 1/1/1 king never seem to die. But is this actually true? Do kings with better stats die younger?

Besides that, what factors into a kings death, is it predetermined or random?

It's random, but the probability of death increases if you make him a general and if he is leading troops.

Bottom line is : never make a god ruler into a general but always do it for bad rulers.

At the moment it's completely random which is quite bad because it should be increasing probability to die closer to the older age but less when younger. I had a game for Ottomans where I barely had periods where I didn't have regency. My all sultans all died before they reached 20 years old. This also produced a bug where the heir's age was 8 and the ruler's age 15... right...

I'm pretty sure age is already a factor.

Also, the heir is not always the son (or daughter).

also, you're just as likely to die in thyis period at 20 as you are 60

To the best of my knowledge, the game periodically makes one dice roll for natural death, and an additional dice roll if the ruler/heir is a general. That's it. The details of how these rolls are calculated are unknown to me (though I'd imagine they're similar to, if not the exact same values as, the "yearly chance of death" that you can see by mousing over an advisor's age); however, the fact that these two rolls exist was confirmed direct from the mouth of Wiz, several months ago. If anything has changed about this system since then, I haven't heard about it.

I'm reasonably certain if we had stats on monarch lifespans in this forum, the balance would skew non-negligibly toward 1/1/1's dying sooner than 6/6/6's. Owing to all those sieges they seem to be leading :p

Back a month or two there was a bug where if a nation that had been annexed was reborn it got an "ancient heir" basically an heir that could be 100+ years old. When the current ruler of that reborn nation would die, the game would crash. It often happened with Norway, but Naples or Aragon could be culprits just as well from the Iberian wedding and then losing a war and getting rebellions. The game could crash at any time, not just the beginning of a month. Since the game didn't get a chance to save in Ironman, you could load the game back up and continue playing....until that ruler died again. As the ruler got older and older, the game would crash more and more frequently.

All of that points to evidence that a ruler is similar to an advisor in that the older they get, the higher chance they have of dying. As to when the roll occurs, unknown, but i'm pretty sure it's a monthly occurence, just not necessarily at the beginning of the month. Either that or it is rolled at the beginning of the month and a random day during that month is picked for the ruler's death, but that the roll is done after autosave occurs. If I was more mathematically inclined, i'm sure that a percentage chance could have been determined by creating data points of every crash. In the game I was playing, Naples was the culprit and the ruler had reached over 80 years of age and the game would crash almost every 3 to 6 months on average. I was able to "fix" my save by doing a no-cb war on them and full annexing them to eliminate them from the game. :p
