What Country are you going to play first as in HOI4?

Well, the title says it all.

I'm going to play as Republican Spain in the 1936 start and turn the nation fascist. After I win the likely civil war, I'll advance in Portugal, and Gibraltar alongside my German & Italian allies. Hopefully I'll live through that, from there I'll probably try to help Germany during Barbarossa and send troops into the middle east. I'll probably do horribly and I'll be sabotaging factories to survive the British onslaught.

Multiple threads on the same topic are just part of the nature of forums, don't worry about it.

I'll play as France and I plan to switch to Fascist and found a Third French Empire, but not join the axis faction. I hope to have a nice quick coup d'état rather than a bloody civil war and I will hopefully be able to avoid invasion by a major power long enough to expand and prepare my defenses, but I expect this to be a real challenge. I'm curious to see how upset Great Britain will be when I go Fascist; perfidious Albion will undoubtedly have reservations about a strong, imperialist France. I'm also curious to see if the removal of the "different government type" relations penalty will be enough to convince Germany to expand elsewhere and leave me be until I can gather the strength of mighty France.

At that point, in theory, Germany might still be 'interested' in your atlantic ports and airfields to fight the UK

If anything, all these multiple threads could be the basis for an interesting (if not terribly scientific ) study into changing forum-goers preferences for starting nations over time .

As for me, I'm going with Australia, great starting nation to do a bit but also small enough to get an idea of how the AI copes with things.

Australia and Canada seem the perfect countries for the first playthroughs.

Germany and I fully expect to fail just like I did as Germany in my first HoI3 game. I like to dive into the deep end.

psh, Germany is the easy end, you gotta go with a nation that relies on insane amounts of troops to test your micro abilities, like soviet union or nationalist china.
Though maybe that won't be as big of a problem in Hoi4.

I'll have to do denmark in a multiplayer game, then conquer scandinavia with the material support of a major.

Yeah that is what i mean, it might not really be a problem anymore. Maybe i'd play Soviet Union just to see how big a difference that makes.

Probably the Soviet Union to get a feel of the game, but perhaps Turkey. So far, they are my favorite minor from HoI3 so I hope that it will be as fun in HoI4. Try to restore the old empire, maybe even more.

I would probably go UK, considering that first UK has generally been fun and second the UK can get a taste of all the aspects of the game without being as heavy on the navy as America or Japan and not as massive on ground as the Soviets or Germany. Also I feel playing a minor first game might not be the best way to start off.

Germany first to understand the system, USSR to perfect the Land War, Japan to practice amphibious invasions and Naval War and then UK to practice only Naval-Air Wars with small Land Operations spread worldwide in that order.
