Because they'll (US) get crushed so bad when I play the CSA that they won't have the guys to show their flag again, ever
Personnally I'll be stearing clear of the the minors and minnows to start with as I cut my teeth with Russia, Prussia, GB and the like.

I think I'll play the U.S. first, because I'm more familiar with it's history during this period, than any other country. I'll be playing close attention to every message that pops up, though - to see what kind of interesting, little-known (to me at least) things happen in other parts of the world. Basically, I'm more knowledgealbe on the U.S. than any other country, so in a game such as this one, I'll need every advantage I can get in this area - to keep from being surprised & taken off-guard by everything that happens. I have no doubt, that when I first start playing Victoria, I'm going to feel like I'm on a strange, foreign planet. WWII is my era - this 19th century stuff is going to be an educational experience, especially for things happening outside the U.S., and North America. I'm trying something new here, with this type of game... (plan to, anyway)

What's wrong with USA? USA of 19th century wasn't powerful as USA of 20th century and it's not even 50 states yet.
I think it's around 35 states and a lot of west territories remain to be "colonized." The population didn't become 'pure' nationalists until late 1890's, unlike other countries (France, Germany, and Italy).I think it'd be fun to to keep USA as a nation and expand to west or lose to CSA and eagerly waiting for the revenge when WWI comes.

Ehm... No?? Austria and Spain will fall to the double-union of Sweden and Netherlands.
We've still got Metternich for a few years. We'll see how we can make an Axis of Papism to deal with this...

Nothing is wrong. I love the USA, I live there after all. Its just, I am more interested in making this an Alternate History. If I succeed beyond my wildest dreams with the USA I will still only be right where they actually were at that time.
I don't have the right mindset for a world conquest.
Canada would look nice as the US's northern border, and you could annex Latin American states instead of just puppeting them (or whatever the Victoria equivalent is) The US is an emerging power in this game, and I thik that the emerging powers are always the most fun to play. Prussia, Japan, and the US will be some of the first countries I play.
I'll make sure it is short indeed.

I couldn't agree more! The US will be a lot of fun--settlement of the West, the railroads, the Civil War, industrialization, labor unrest, social reform, war with Mexico and Spain, a couple of depressions, plenty of financial scandals, etc.
