In single player games there will probably be countries that are not that interesting to play (not challenging enough).

Let's face it: playing GB in SP Victoria is probably going to be like playing France in SP EU2, only more so. Your country will be so immensely rich and powerful that it's going to able have it's way almost every time.

That's why I only played France once in EU2, after that it was usually something like Algeria, Prussia, Golden Horde or Morocco. These are still fun to play. I have a soft spot for the underdogs.

So, the chances are that I won't be playing GB or Russia in SP after I've learned to master the system.

Cheers, H.

Countries I won't play?? Ummmmmm...
Switzerland.

Sweden. Boring, no strategic perspective... unless of course you try to retake Finnland. That ought to be, well, exciting. :)

Canada will probably also be boring beyond comparison. (If it's playable at all. When did they get Dominion status, anyways?) Unless you play a Turtledove-scenario where the British Empire, as ally of the CSA and France, goes to war against the USA. But the odds of that happening are 1:100...

Portugal.

Timbuktu. Gonder. Any Ethiopian nation.

Republic of Kracow. Principality of Schaumburg-Lippe. (I checked the screenie on that Swedich publisher's page and they're in!!! :D) Waldeck. Hesse-Nassau.

But maybe the game turns out to be totally different from what I've thought and I will decide to actually play Switzerland or any of the above mentioned bores. Who knows?

Since the game isn't completly focused on warfare those small nations with no place to expand militarily might actualy be fun.

But i agree, GB and Russia and to a lesser degree France could be boring yes.

You're right... :) Warfare even seems one of the smaller parts of gameplay if I look at the detail involved in the domestic policy area.

But i agree, GB and Russia and to a lesser degree France could be boring yes.

Looks like you're contradicting yourself here... Especially in Russia's case there'd be a lot more to do than kick the Turks and small Central Asian nations around. Think 1905 and 1917 and how you, as a player, could stop this from happening.

I think that the game has a few surprises left, even for the greatest of nations :D . But otherwise, I definately think that even nations such as GB and France will have their challenges, especially considering how massive the superpowers were at the time, even considering their comparative diffrences. I mean, GB may seem all fun and games, but when you have a bunch of socialists risking civil war because you decided to declare a few too many wars or ignore the working classes, I am sure you will have an incentive to get your butt moving into gear. Not to mention when the germans or the french realize your weakness and decide to strike at that time ;) .

In short: patience, there will be a few punches yet to be thrown into the sides of competitive superpowers.

p.s. oh, to answer to the topic of the thread, I would likely not play Chile or some tiny german principality. Other than that, bring on the game (please) :D

peace,

You can also go for Denmark, start to colonize or build Sweden into a industrial might. The Norwegians have to, naturally, be kept in a short leash. And what is the best for the people: democracy or wealth and might? Or could they be accomplished at the same time?

I personally hate overseas empires, I don't think I've yet played UK in HoI for more than 15 minutes. But reasonably sized compact medium powers are my personal weakness.

True. And i stand corrected, i guess i viewed Russia in an EU1 and 2 gameplay sense and the smaller nations more in a Victoria gameplay sense.

But still, i don't think Russia would be the nation for me. :)

There's no country I don't want to play! ! !
The 19th century was full of major happenings around the world.
I hope Victoria will have tons of events for all the countries in the world... at least historical ones, and let modders make the "what-if" history events.

Boring! The American Civil War is the second largest war during this period!

The US also fights Mexico and has the potential for conflict with the British in Canada, the Japanese in the Pacific, and in Central & South America in general.
